darlington has more decent schools than Bishop I believe - Carmel, Hummersknott, Hurworth all v good in Darlo plus shops are much better

auntiebetty · 15/11/2007 19:24

thanks mucking I was looking at Hummersknott. King james in bishop looks good by the latest stats but I didn't have a good feeling about it.

oops sorry, been at work and all that real life stuff that gets in the way! I live in Sedgefield but am a secondary school teacher so have a some knowledge of the local schools. I have the same gut feeling abotu King James as you, I think it may be to do with the town - Darlington is defintely a nicer place to live.

auntiebetty · 18/11/2007 14:21

oh mucking thank you. Am looking at living at hummersknott but also looked at sedgefield and heighington- both look really nice.

King James had a dreadful reputation when i was a child, haven't heard reports of it massively improving

dutchmam · 19/11/2007 15:59

I've no personal experience of it but St Johns in Bishop Auckland has got a good reputation. It's a Catholic school though, so they give preference to Catholics when admitting pupils.

thanks

mucking do you work at the school in sedgefield - i heard it's good and sedgefield is still on my list. Where would you live darlington (west end - mowden), heighington or sedgefield?

OP posts:

you around mucking?

sorry didn't see that question before.

Sedgefield school is on the up, new head is doing well I hear. I don't work there, I work in the nasty polluted city that's the worst place in the uk to live (hence not living where I work!)

Sedgefield is a nice village, good community etc. Darlington has more going on and a good town centre, it just depends what you want really, rural-ish village or bustling town

oljam · 22/11/2007 10:24

Heighington is a nice village. Mowden always used to be quite a nice part of town. St Johns in Bishop always used to be quite a decent school when I were a lass, but it's been a few years. I went to Tech in Bishop but went to Staindrop school. I don't think King James had that bad a rep in those days though.

auntiebetty · 22/11/2007 16:10

thanks mucking - if it was just me I would definately be after rural but I'm thinking about the dds when they hid teenage years
oljam - st johns is out as I'm not catholic - we looked at staindrop school but thought we might be better in town as I need to find a job - b***d husband
