Hello!
We're looking at moving to Cheam village which puts us equidistant between Cheam High and Harris Sutton (based on this year's allocation, we would have scraped into Harris, and narrowly missed out on Cheam on offer day). DD1 is Year 5 so we'll be applying this year. Conscious that we may fall through the gap for these schools so I'm keen to get views on Overton Grange and also Carshalton Girls School (as we would probably have got this one based on this year's intake). We're not considering grammar options (so also ruling out Greenshaw's academic places). Thanks in advance!

I don't know the school well but I used to work near Overton Grange and the kids' general behaviour seemed fine after school. I also know a teacher there who speaks very positively about it.

I also wanted to mention Glenthorne's performing arts aptitude places (music, dance or drama) in case that could be helpful.

Hi @namestheyareachanging, thanks for responding and good to hear your impressions about general behaviour etc.
And yes thanks re Glenthorne - unfortunately not a strength/interest for DD1, possibly a consideration for DD2 - but that's a way off yet (although will no doubt come round quick!!).

I live in a different part of Sutton, but Overton Grange might be where by DS ends up because of catchments etc. Would love to know more about it - it doesn't seem to be a school that gets discussed much!

There is no harm in doing the general banding for Glenthorne. Overton Grange isn't seen as one of the high performing schools and I have known parents to have had some issues with it but I think that is true of all schools.

Car Girls I only know by their behaviour on the buses etc and by whats reported to me by my children. If it was a choice between them then I would go for Overton just because it is going to be a much quicker journey by bus.

I would be holding out for Glenthorne/Cheam as a long shot then Harris as a possible though.

A number of children in my daughter's year (now year 9) were allocated Overton, it wasn't on their initial lists as there are lots of closer schools. The parents I'm still in touch with seem to rate it and are glad their children ended up there, to the point that they're sending younger siblings too.

A friend's sister went years ago, because she has mobility issues and it was the only school at the time that was fully accessible to her. No idea if that's still true, but I thought it was a positive. She enjoyed her time there but is in her 30s now!

Overton Grange is a terrible school, the give you detention, without asking you. Overton Grange is stupid. I hope that school gets removed by the government.

DD’s school is very local to Overton and I often park where I can see the kids. They seem well behaved, I’d say!

Is St Philomena’s an option or is it too far?
