How long is reasonable to wait for a phone call back from school?

As per title really. I'm waiting for a phone call back from DD's HoY. I know she's got the message because about an hour after I called and spoke to Reception (and left a summary of why I wanted to speak to HoY) she bumped into DD in the corridor and told her that she'd got my message and would be ringing me back although it might not be that day as she was very busy.

I appreciate she is busy and it's not super urgent, but equally not something I want to delay for too long either. So I don't want to chase before a reasonable time frame has passed ... just can't work out what "reasonable" is!

Wait til Monday, if they are teaching all day and have meetings after school they might struggle. Plus if yours is less urgent they might have a big list they need to prioritise

I'd call back in the morning and say you need to speak to them before the long weekend, unless it really isn't urgent and then you could just email them explaining what you'd like to discuss.

I'd give non urgent issues 48 hours before getting back in touch. A HoY is typically responsible for 200-250 students.

I’d email her if I were you.

I'm currently torn between chasing tomorrow and waiting until Tuesday.
I don't really want to email as it's a bit of a complicated issue, hence the request for a conversation.

In light of it being a bank holiday, whether I'd call tomorrow or wait until Tuesday would come down to whether there is something the HoY would need to action before Tuesday, vs something that you would like to discuss for their information but any actions could be equally done on Wednesday following a conversation on Tuesday.

If you asked for a call back from HofY specifically the school must know it's quite important so I would expect a call back within 24 hours. In my children's school, they have a policy of replying on same day and I've even had call backs at 7pm in the evening if the teachers haven't had time during the day. Would it be easier to email the HofY directly and ask for a quick call back as you don't want to be worrying over the bank holiday?

That's a good way of thinking about it, thank you. I suspect if I talk to her today, nothing will happen until next week anyway, so it's probably better to leave it till Tuesday and then it will be fresh in her mind.
