My son is 16 years old, we just move to Manchester few days ago. Could anyone recommend a local college to us please? Many thanks 😊

Hi
There are a number of colleges in Manchester. There is Manchester college which has about 5 different sites across Manchester. In South Manchester. There is Trafford college, Loretto College , Xaverian college and in East Manchester there is Connell Co-op college.

I went to Loreto - it was fantastic, although this is some time back. I made life-long friends, received wonderful inspiring teaching in all of my subjects, and went on to Oxbridge. It was the making of me, as I was bright but shy and lacking in confidence when I arrived.

I think you'd be best having a look for yourself because they will all have a different feel.

However DS is at Uni with a couple of people who went to Xaverian College and who really enjoyed it. They sound like they cater for everyone.

Is he wanting to do A-levels? BTECs? Longer-term aspirations? What sort of school has he come from?

I attended Xaverian College several years ago and had an excellent experience. I came from a very poor performing secondary school, and my time at Xaverian was the first time that I had teachers who saw my potential and believed in my abilities. I was predicted BCC in my A-Levels, based off my GCSE results, but left the college with A*AAB. I also had friends who went to Loreto and had a similar experience. Both are Catholic colleges, but you don’t need to be Catholic to attend.
