Can anyone advise what is on the Halliford School (Shepperton) entrance exam?

I think it’s normally pretty standard English, Maths, Verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

My son took the Halliford exams this January though so it was different to normal as they were moved online at the last minute. He did verbal and non verbal reasoning and a paper in spatial awareness.

As per above, they are usually in person but this year ours were online. They were based on the GL assessments which are very similar to prep achool CAT tests

Also, Halliford give preference to early applicants so if you are interested , then apply early l

Thanks for the tips. Is anyone at Halliford now? How is it? I hate not being able to see it in person. But I went to the online open morning and we both just loved it. We have already applied.

My son is due to start this September so I’d also be very keen to hear from any current parents!

Scaffoldhell · 07/05/2021 17:26

We are also starting in September. We have a friend with a son in year 8 there and they can’t stop singing it’s praises

Cech21 · 07/05/2021 19:31

Scaffoldhell so do we infact! My son is the only one going from his school and we live quite far although aiming to move closer. Does your son have friends coming with him?

Scaffoldhell · 08/05/2021 06:46

He had one other boy from his school joining so he will have a friendly face, but I think it’s the sort of school where they will make friends pretty quickly. Seems like a very caring school

Posting again in the hope that any current Halliford parents might see - really keen to hear from any as we only know one family at the school!

Grace909 · 31/05/2021 05:42

@Cech21 We are due to start in September. I reached out to other parents, we were in a similar position to you. Feedback: Both were really happy, sons are thriving and doing well.

Overall, our experience to date with the school has been better than any of the other schools we applied for during the pandemic. Customer experience & human approach.

Cech21 · 01/06/2021 22:12

@Grace909 thank you that is really reassuring to read! And yes agree, their comms were excellent throughout, which can’t be said for all (although some were also reasonably good)

Hi, just wondered how everyone on this thread now at Halliford is getting on? Have your boys settled in well? Hoping for a place for my DS.. what’s the exam like? We have not had any tutoring at all - will he struggle?

Whatsblueandflies · 15/10/2022 13:42

My son loves it. We have been impressed with it and have found it to be very nurturing but also gets the best out of our son. The exam was pretty straight forward - no non verbal or verbal so it was just English and maths and an interview with the head teacher. They try and take boys from across state and private and a variety of levels so even if your son isn’t the most academic candidate, if the school thinks he is a good fit, then he has a good chance

My DS is a shy but sociable kid, if he's comfortable in a gentler environment. He's not particularly sporty, more arty, B grade student I'd say. I got the feeling it wasnt too boisterous a school.. would I be right? Gentler boys??! He would be starting in year so wonder how easily/ quickly he'd settle in.. we did love it though!

Whatsblueandflies · 16/10/2022 19:40

He would be fine. For every sporty boy there is a bookish one who is more dungoens and Dragos then football/rugby
Definitely not to boisterous , a good blend of sporty/arts/music etc
