Waiting for appeal date

Hi all hope you are all doing ok wondering how yous are finding waiting for the school appeals hearing it’s constantly all we can think about. We were 10th on waiting list now 5th but can’t see much movement from now until September so looks like we will have to go through the appeal very nerve racking process I’m sure.

@Mstiva we are in a similar position, places 4 and 10 on the wait list for our two preferred schools. We get a update on 6th May when the third round of allocations happen. I know that one of our appeals will be early June, haven’t been advised of the other appeal date yet (one is organised by the local authority and the other is an academy so they run their appeals independently)
So stressful waiting, I feel your pain Sad

Can I ask how you find out about waiting list? My child was 3rd but we were told 1st round of places wouldn't be til 16 April. Haven't heard anything today either but just got appeal date through.

@AvaCallanach where we are they update waiting list places on 1st April, 6th May, 1st June, 1 st July here.

Are you thinking of primary or secondary? Primary places went out 1st round today (16 April).
AvaCallanach · 16/04/2021 21:54

I rang the school in question @DustCentral, and they told me.

AvaCallanach · 16/04/2021 22:08

Sorry Dust, misread it.

It's secondary.

DustCentral · 17/04/2021 09:01

Ah right. They must have 16 April as one of their dates. Which coincidentally is also primary allocations day 👍

Hi everyone. We have appealed for our DS and have just had the date through for the hearing, although it’s a written submission only, no teams or phone call. I can totally relate to it being all you think about. It’s felt like forever to get to this point, and we still won’t know the outcome until the end of May. I have no idea where we are on the waiting list but I know there were more than 200 kids who didn’t get a first choice place, and we don’t live particularly close. That and historically there is very little movement on the waiting list. Can’t do much at this point other that to wait some more 😏

Morewaiting · 24/04/2021 09:30

P.S. good luck to everyone with waiting lists and with the appeals themselves

Thischarmlessgirl · 24/04/2021 09:44

@Morewaiting We are in the same situation here it’s a paper only appeal, and not until June. I’m finding the whole thing really frustrating as I’m terrible with uncertainty. Also part of our appeal is my sons special educational needs and emotional needs with a emphasis on needing an enhanced transition which if we don’t even get to appeal until June isn’t going to be particularly easy!
We are places 4 and 10 on the waiting lists but they don’t seem to move much.
I managed to switch off a little bit over the Easter holidays from it as I knew that nothing much would happen but since he’s been back at school and there’s obviously more talk about transition and ordering leavers hoodies etc it definitely feels more anxiety provoking again. When is your appeal?

DustCentral · 24/04/2021 10:49

Im shocked that so many appeals seem to be paper only now. Ours are Zoom and I can see no reason why parents shouldn’t have the right to attend online.

Thischarmlessgirl · 24/04/2021 10:50

@DustCentral - I’ve asked if ours could be via video or even telephone conferencing and was told it was trialled, didn’t work effectively so paper is most consistent and fair Confused it seems ridiculous to me

DustCentral · 24/04/2021 13:29

@Thischarmlessgirl that’s very disappointing on their part. It works fine here.

eddiemairswife · 24/04/2021 16:00

I don't se why some LAs can do video or phone conferencing, wnile others can't.
