Dunottar School - Reigate

A warning to parents looking for schools in Reigate. We had to withdraw our child due to an abusive teacher. We found the internal complaints procedure self-serving and therefore broken. Private schools have one flaw which many do not know about (and hopefully will never need to know about). Private institutions fall largely outside of the scope of the Department for Education and local councils (unless an instant and tangible issue arises - such as health and safety concerns - or extremist teachings).

Dunottar quite lawfully control the entire complaints process - they are able to investigate themselves, report on their own findings and draft their own conclusions.

A recent news article suggested that Police should be called to investigate serious matters within the private school sector rather than have the institution police itself - and I wholeheartedly agree.

We feel that Dunottar let us and our child down terribly. In our estimation the investigation and it's processes were regarded as barriers to overcome - rather than opportunities to reveal 'any' potential wrong-doing.

We will never forgive ourselves for selecting Dunottar.

Gosh, that sounds very disappointing. I suspect your thread will get taken down but thank you for having the courage to stand up.

Sorry to hear this @OkSkiingMum. I hope your dc is settled somewhere else now.
Unfortunately all independent schools have the same process and I fear much is covered up.

@OkSkiingMum can you contact me directly to tell me a bit more about this experience?
