Tornbridge School - Day boarders feedback?

Hello, we are looking at Tornbridge School as a possibility for DS as a day boarder, and we would appreciate any feedback you could share.

We understand that there is a 60/40 boarding/day and we are unsure whether it would feel like a "school community" for the pupils or a big divide boarders/local?

It feels a little cold and conservative.

What do you mean by 'day boarder'? I know lots of boys who love being weekly boarders at Tonbridge. And one day boy.

Do you think the whole school feels cold and conservative? Maybe it's not for you then - where else are you considering?

What is a day boarder?

What is the pastoral care like at Tonbridge?
What is the social aspect of the school? If Boys’ go home each weekend how do they manage a ‘healthy teenage social interaction’? Or is it only academic sports and computer games?
Is there a social ‘hub or cafe?’ Or they don’t have the time to socialise?
Would be interested to know

Yes we got the same feel so would be interested to know?

going home each weekend isn't quite right though is it? They go home after games on Saturday late afternoon and have to be back in school Sunday evening -plenty of time for teenage socialising?

That is not a weekend. One evening going home. I am reading the parents who explain that this does not work very well for those who live far away from the school or who are International students. If the school empties on the Saturday evenings then it must be a very solitary existence for those left behind.

I assume day boarders have a much longer day having to add travel to and from home to their day busy lives.

I see the first comment of cold and conservative winning through here. I am also getting a feel of only academic here.

not sure I follow? it's a fabulous school with fabulous facilities. No narrow academic focus.

the weekend set up is the same as all other senior boarding schools? they can go home for saturday night but they can also choose to remain at school.

yes quite a long day for day boys - but again no different from other similar senior schools?
