School appeal

Hi good afternoon we’ve just lodged our appeal today for a school place in a school we weren’t offered for our son. The council website states that we would receive a letter saying why we weren’t successful in gaining a place and the appeals form is attached to letter. We never received any letter or an appeals form and we wouldn’t be as was told from school admissions to find form online fill in and return. How is it possible it states in school appeal process what should happen regarding letter sent out but then we are told no letter will be sent out?

Is the letter maybe only for people that didn't apply online?

Otherwise it sounds like a mistake on the website. You could point out the mistake to the admissions team, but it sounds like they've pointed you in the right direction now, so I personally would just focus on your appeal.

OP does need to know why her child didn’t get a place, if only to check that there wasn’t an error such as considering the application under the wrong oversubscription criterion or getting the home/school distance wrong.

OP - contact the admissions authority (which is either the school or the LEA) by email and tell them you require this information urgently.

OP has put in other threads that she was 0.1 miles too far away from her preferred school and knows she is 7th on the waiting list. So I was assuming she got this information in her email admissions response. Agree, if she hasn't had formal confirmation, she needs to get in touch with her LEA.

We got a letter making a secondary school offer. On that it said why we weren’t offered first choice and it told us how to appeal.

Some schools handle their own appeals and some go through the LA. Probably just a generic sentence that didn't fit the bill?

We were provided no reasons for not being offered a place at 1st choice school nor did we receive a letter which included appeal instructions.

OP - As you have the information on why you missed out on a place, you should be able to frame your appeal accordingly. You've already had a lot of advice on your appeal.

If you don’t mind me asking @Mstiva which school did you get allocated? Reading your posts sounds like the same school I got.
