Harrow Entrance Test

My son has just managed pass the Pre-Tests, even though the letter mentions his scores were not as high as other boys. Any idea on how to prep for the Interviews and the Harrow Tests? We have no support from sons current school. Thank you

Tutor? If you can afford Harrow I assume you have money? Change schools?

Indigo1712 · 16/03/2021 15:04

I would love to, but we live abroad and not many people here are familiar with the rigours of exam prep required for these schools. Do you know of any trusted tutor agencies I can use on line to help him? Thanks

I think you need to look at ex pat community tutors. If there’s no one else wanting tutors for this, then you are stuck. Google?

Or he would need to be in a boarding prep here. I don’t know your country and what’s available.

HermioneMakepeace · 16/03/2021 18:39

@Indigo1712 If it’s not too outing, may I ask which country you are in?

He has already passed the first hurdle so congratulations! Did Harrow identify any particular areas of weakness/bias in his pre-test? He may need some interview practice and some familiarity with the type of English/maths style questions. The composition element will be looking at his SPAG as well as his writing skills and may well be a response to an image stimulus rather than a more traditional story. As suggested above, if you have access to an expat community you may find a tutor who is familiar with British independent school admissions. For me the interview is the key, that is when they can find out more about who your son is and how he would fit in at Harrow. Happy to chat further if you want to pm me.

Where are you living at the moment? My son went through the process a few years ago. Second round consists of interviews with a Housemaster and senior staff along with online tests and writing. We worked with a really good, specialist tutor at the time, Metal Rocks Education, but I'm not sure if they do online. Worth contacting them as they help with the whole process from prepping to interview practise to educational advice. Good luck to your son!

Hello, if you don’t mind me asking, how did it go for your son and his entrance exam at Harrow? We are in the same situation. Thank you

Indigo1712 · 19/05/2022 05:27

Hi Sunny side, we are currently on a waiting list for 2023 entrance. You?

@Indigo1712 would you mind sharing how you prepared for the harrow test? I know the prep school is going to help but I am wondering what that entails.

Sunnyside77 · 19/05/2022 20:26

My son had been invited back for the exam and interview in Autumn for entrance in 2024. He got the same feedback as your son (wasn’t as strong as the others but they would still like to see him). Have you got any recommendations for the exam preparation and interview? Many thanks 😊

peasant985 · 24/11/2022 17:20

Can I ask the feedback you mentioned is for ISEB pretest? We didn't take the test in Harrow but we received invitation for entrance tests and interviews.

Sunnyside77 · 24/11/2022 20:26

Yes, the feedback was for his iseb. He has done all the tests and interviews so now we just have to wait 1-2 weeks…

peasant985 · 25/11/2022 05:01

Thank you! Good luck to your son!

Lotu3 · 01/12/2022 23:51

@Sunnyside77 - Our DS sat the Harrow test in Oct 22 too and eagerly waiting for the results.. Good luck to our boys

Sunnyside77 · 02/12/2022 06:31

All the best, guess it’s results day at some point next week

Lotu3 · 05/12/2022 15:36

So the results are this week.. I am more nervous than the kids 😃

Sunnyside77 · 05/12/2022 18:38

Haha, I know. I haven’t even told my son the results are out this week. All the best.

Indigo1712 · 06/12/2022 02:50

Oh wow, good luck 👍
