@icanbewhatiwant

Let us know how he gets on! I printed off stopping distances for DS earlier. He still seems to have just done the one full practice test Hmm

icanbewhatiwant · 12/04/2021 21:33

@20newnames ds has completed all 700 questions on the 4 in 1 app. No stopping distances. Yes will let you know how he gets on. The app pays for re take if people fail.

orangecinnamon · 12/04/2021 22:02

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemorehope it going well with new job. There is plenty if time still to decide courses ...the problem can sometimes be narrowing it down a bit. Might be useful to.have some general convos about what he wants out if uni life campus ? City? Large ? Small? If he sure that is the path .

Good luck to your DS ican. DD’s is next week, hopefully third time lucky, though not through failures (yet), but COVID cancellations.

She’s working all this week now pools are reopen again, so no actual school work being done except from when she can squeeze in some reading. Thankfully exams are towards half term, not from 20th like some...

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/04/2021 08:56
@20newnames ds has his theory tomorrow. I don't know how he will get on. He's done the 4 in 1 app. It says all the questions that will be in the test are on the app. But he's not done anything on stopping distances.
I'm sure they will be in the test. I hope the app is good enough. He has a Highway Code but not looked at it.
Good luck to your DS today.

Delphigirl · 13/04/2021 10:59

Good luck to all the theory testers! DS has his driving test 12 May postponed from early Jan (he is a Sept baby so driving since then). It will be great if he gets it. He did no work for his theory until the week before and passed it easily but I suspect with a different draw of questions he may not have been so lucky...

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 17:06

Ds passed the theory. 2 questions that weren't in the app. it says it has all the questions but obviously not. He got those 2 wrong. So 48/50. He got really high marks on hazard perception, the app helped with that. Now for mock revision, mock exams start next week.

Monkey2001 · 13/04/2021 17:12

Haha @icanbewhatiwant, you know that means he might think he can pass all exams with no work! Well done to him though.

ealingwestmum · 13/04/2021 17:13

👏👏 to your DS Ican! I still chuckle on the ‘extras’ your boy does without you knowing (such as gcse statistics). Good to see his dark horse side remains 😂

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 17:15

@Monkey2001 he did go right through the app in the end. All 700 questions. All the hazard clips too. Just left it all until yesterday. I'm glad it's out the way.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 13/04/2021 17:21

Well done to your DS @icanbewhatiwant that’s a good score!

What app was he using?

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 17:33

He was determined to get a better mark than ds1. Ds1 got 49/50 but only 47/75 on hazard perception. Ds2 got 69/75 for hazards. To be fair we didn't know there was an app when ds1 took his. I think it helped a lot. But ds2 says he's won. He thinks he got higher gcse grades too. But they were similar. There's a lot of competition between them.

Seeline · 13/04/2021 17:34

DD isn't 17 until the summer holidays, so hopefully the learner driver stuff might have settled down a bit by then.

20newnames · 13/04/2021 19:44

Well done to your DS icanbe!

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 20:12

Thanks everyone. I think he's pleased with himself. Though won't let on.

Fiddlersgreen · 13/04/2021 20:24

Well done to your DS @icanbewhatiwant

They sound like my two DS!! Very competitive in this house too.

What was the app your DS used?

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 20:39

@Fiddlersgreen he used 4 in 1 app. They say they have all the possible questions. But as I said ds had 2 that weren't in the app. We also downloaded a free hazard perception app. Ds2 is definitely competitive...they did something in English in year 8 where they had to give a talk, read out a poem and a page from their favourite book. I can't remember what it was called, they got a certificate at the end. Ds1 was given 96% I told ds2 he couldn't beat that...he was given 100% so he was smug. But ds2 is now worried ds3 might do better. Ds3 isn't competitive though. Well...I don't think ds1 is either...he just sets the bar without meaning to.

Oblomov21 · 13/04/2021 20:43

Well done icanbe-Ds! Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 21:59

I have been online to book practical test. The instructor isn't that local and insisted I book Lowestoft. It's 38 miles away and about an hour in the car. I wanted to book where ds1 took his test. It's 17 miles away. The instructor said he wasn't prepared to take him there to practice as he doesn't know that area. Anyway...I looked online right up until end of December. The only test I could get was where the instructor wanted in Lowestoft mid September. So I booked it. We will think about trying for a cancellation nearer the time. I won't be taking ds there to practice as I have never been there. I'm not going to think about it for now.

Delphigirl · 13/04/2021 22:02

Well Done to your DS @icanbewhatiwant! 👍

Around here it used to be easy to get last minute driving test slots, but post Covid who knows. So good he has got something in Sept at least...

icanbewhatiwant · 13/04/2021 22:14

@Delphigirl I don't think there will be many cancellations in the next few months as everyone will want to take their test. But I'm hoping it'll ease a bit by July/August time. But if the instructor isn't prepared to go to our local centre it's a bit annoying. As I said before he's a learner instructor. I think if he is going to teach in this area he may have to learn the routes at the more local centre.

20newnames · 13/04/2021 22:43

icanbe DS1 took his test 45 mins drive from home as that is where his instructor preferred. It was a pain but I did take him there and we practised some routes, despite never having been there before either.

We have the same instructor for DS2 starting next month so will see where she now tests. We have two nearer test centres but the instructor is great and we know her so will just go with it.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/04/2021 06:43

@20newnames yes the nearest one is about 40 mins. I'd say over an hour to get to one he wants to use. So I don't see how he will get there for practice. The instructor lives 20 mins in that direction, so I don't think he realises how much further away we are. Might get there a bit quicker at quiet times of the day. DH shouted at me to not book the test there. But as that was the only option I have booked it. All the test centres near to us are a long drive on a straight road. So they spend a lot of wasted time driving there on an easy road. I grew up in north Surrey, so straight out into a busy town driving.

Zandathepanda · 14/04/2021 11:40

We were the same with eldest Dd. Ended up driving to the test town and meeting the instructor and the driving lessons starting there. I got to know the car parks well.
She also had 2 hour lessons sometimes when we couldn’t do that.

icanbewhatiwant · 14/04/2021 17:30

@Zandathepanda yes good idea driving to the test centre town for lessons. All our instructors only do 2 hour lessons round here. So once they get driving further afield we are paying for over an hour of the instructor sitting beside them on a straight road to the town the test centre is in. So many people I've spoken to say it's silly booking ds's test in Lowestoft. They said it takes longer than an hour to get there from here. But that's the only test I could get anyway. I think the instructor will realise when he takes him there. Won't be for a while though. Will wait till nearer the time then think about it.

I booked driving lessons every Monday afternoon for 10 weeks as ds finishes at 1pm. Then ds comes home with his mock timetable and his mocks are Monday afternoons for the next few weeks 😩
