Thanks @Monkey2001 @EventuallyDistracted it looks like we will need to plan ahead...the others in the household are terrible at it so may have to designate a 'pizza night' in advance

My household has about 4 large pizzas at once. Not sure there is a pizza oven large enough for their troughing!

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 14:15

You can get larger ones than ours! Each pizza only takes about 90s to cook so it is do-able, I did 10 one after the other last week (some for friends in the garden, some for family inside the house, all legal!). When it's just the four of us we do them one at a time, for a bigger group it's more sociable to make a pizza, cut it up and hand pieces round then cook the next one.

Zandathepanda · 06/04/2021 14:47

Our double oven and in built microwave blew up just as the first lockdown started. They had been wired up wrong and it will be a bit of a job to fix. The built in microwave is also weird size. We have had a situpandbeg worktop combo microwave for over a year Shock so have learnt to cook pizzas on the gas hob (in a dry saucepan) then grill them on top. It actually works very well!

Monkey2001 · 06/04/2021 15:05

Both my DSs can put away a large Domino's pizza with little difficulty. They normally have 2 each when we make them, which works well. Our indoor one also does them in under 2 minutes.

@Zandathepanda we used to do Delia Smith's pan baked pizza (from One is Fun?) which was super easy and delicious - the dough was SR flour with olive oil and water and I think you fried 1 side, flipped it over and put the topping on and then grilled it. I can't imagine managing for a year without a proper oven!

Zandathepanda · 06/04/2021 15:45

I miss baking Sad victoria sponges and cookies and eating oven baked jacket potatoes.
Just about everything else can be done with a hob/combo microwave/grill.
The dog has had a selection of ‘trying it out’ disasters.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 16:02

Well, DS and I attended a webinar Intro to the Royal Agricultural University today that was interesting and he only picked his phone up twice during it. Not sure if that was one of the ones suggested a week or two back on here, but it's staying on the list of possibles.

orangecinnamon · 06/04/2021 16:24

Sounds promising @eventuallydistracted! Lovely area too.

All this talk of pizza 😋 I only have to look at pizza, cake, chocolate etc and I put on weight. I find it really quite depressing.

Zandathepanda · 06/04/2021 19:48

Just seen masks are still going to be worn in class after Easter until mid May. Dd will have her 2nd jab by then which is good but already some of ‘the lads’ in her class have started being non compliant so I don’t know how many will actually be wearing them by then. Teachers don’t seem to be challenging pupils who have just decided they can’t be bothered anymore. I imagine it’s going to be fairly uncomfortable when it gets warmer too. I am hoping the government have done this to protect teachers - though they should have got them all vaccinated last half term.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 19:58

Oh, I don't think I said, @Zandathepanda, DS finally got his jab last week. I phoned the vaccination hub directly and they got him in.

Zandathepanda · 06/04/2021 20:29

EventuallyDistracted brilliant news! The Pfizer one (which I presume he had) is said to be very good from 21 days in - so by the time he goes back! I thought we had a positive lateral flow test today (it wasn’t, it was a trick of the dye and light as it moved up the test) but my first thought was ‘oh no, I am going to have to tell the school’! They have asked for all test results (even before PCR confirmation) up to day 6 so tomorrow will be the last day for ‘the’ phone call from them too. I would be a pain having to isolate because of a big party Year 12s had last week. Uni Dd is going back and would be furious.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 20:44

Yes, Pfizer, almost three weeks to the day before he goes back so perfect timing, no side effects other than a sore arm. The only friend he sees regularly outside school had his about a month ago too, so they can both feel less anxious about term starting back up.

Zandathepanda · 06/04/2021 20:57

It is a relief. I am so glad she is 16 and able to have it. I think the shielding children come back after Easter - it will be a big adjustment for them.
Just Uni Dd not jabbed now.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 21:03

It is a relief, I don't think DS is medically more vulnerable, but he gets very distressed at even routine GP appointments so the thought of him being hospitalised with this and without us is, well, unthinkable. It is also a huge relief that we have had it because he is far more longterm dependent on us than the average 17 year old.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/04/2021 13:50

Having complained to everyone at not having a vaccine yet, I've now been called for one. As the government have said under 50's won't be called until May I didn't think I'd be called yet. I was annoyed to hear from a friend yesterday that her brother and wife have been done, they are late 40's plus their teenage children all done. They have no health issues. So made me wonder how some seem to get vaccines so young.
I know our health centre usually give AZ vaccine. So listening to the news is a bit off putting, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Monkey2001 · 08/04/2021 14:07

There are definitely some randoms, DS1's friend - 20 and in good health was called for a vaccine in Liverpool - he was a student there last year and transferred to Bristol this year, so trekked up to Liverpool during lockdown for the vaccine.

The cases of people who have died with blood clots is desperately sad, but to put it in context, they are talking about a 1/500,000 chance that happens to an individual and the chance of being hit by lightening is twice that. I don't know how they can unpick the causes, but if Pfizer/Moderna was not available to my DC, I would encourage them to have the AZ but be really aware of the warning signs.

EventuallyDistracted · 08/04/2021 14:21

I have several under 50 friends who have had theirs in the last week or so.

I'm painting today and have had the radio on, they have been discussing the AZ blood clot link. A woman was interviewed whose brother was one of those who has died from clots following the jab - he died last weekend. She was urging people to go ahead with their AZ jabs despite what had happened. Just to be aware of the symptoms, he had persistent and worsening headaches.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/04/2021 18:22

I think the government have now decided not to offer AZ to under 30s, for the time being at least. It is interesting that the risk factor is so low compared with other drugs (the pill, HRT for instance) yet they are making it headline news. People obviously need to be made aware of the risk but it does need to be put in context especially with so many people ready to jump on the anti Vax bandwagon.

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 19:32

I think it is because in this case the risk of getting the side effect is higher than the risks of covid in under 30s. Although Long Covid wasn't factored in to risks apparently.

That said I have never taken pill because of migraines and other risks so I am quite risk averse.

Zandathepanda · 08/04/2021 19:57

I had a look at the long covid kids website a couple of weeks back. The seizures Dd has been left with are arguably worse than her initial (unknown) virus infection she is recovering from. I held it together until we got home but had a little cry of relief after her covid jab.
It makes us feel safer her going into school.

Hopefully there is going to be an exponential growth of knowledge in how viruses attack the body and brain so it will help everyone in the future.

I hope everyone, then Year 12 and 13 at least get the chance of a jab before autumn term.

Every adult (I mean)

Ouch! I managed to reverse my mum's car into my dad's car at this stage.
