Advice on private secondary schools around Guildford area

Hi there, we're looking to relocate to the Guildford area and looking for advice on school options. DS is in Y2 and, whilst he is bright, he does average academically. This is mainly due to DS not being motivated/focussed and he's also happy to coast along in most of the things he does.

I know that Royal Guildford School is hard to get into and DS isn't the type (so far) who thrives in an academically competitive environment. So I'm not sure whether RGS would be a good fit even if we felt confident he could get in. Academics and fulfilling potential are important to us. However, DS being happy and confident where he is takes priority. I'm wondering what the other options are that aren't so selective but are still solid schools from an academic perspective. In terms of interests, DS is into sports (no interest in music or art) and he's quite laid back and easy going. Other schools we know of (Hamptons and St John's in Leatherhead) seem quite selective as well.

Whilst DS is only Y2, we are looking ahead as we don't want to move if we find ourselves in a quandary with no secondary school options/offers. As both parents work and need to commute, we'd like to avoid a long school commute for DS.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try St George's college weybridge, Churchers College or Reigate Grammar. Otherwise towards Esher/ Shepperton - Reeds, Claremont Fan Court or Halliford. If you take a look at the school bus maps for all these schools you will see the pupil catchment areas.

Reigate Grammar is easily as competitive as St John's if not more so. Box Hill has a more holistic approach. Downsend is expanding into secondary so should be established by the time you need to choose.
