Fellow teachers... sharing resources question

Our department shares resources online with other local schools. Recently I used instructional videos by another teacher (with her permission) as part of my remote learning lesson so that the pupils could follow instructions to make something. This was the first time I've used another teacher's video. A member of my dept said it makes us look lazy and I shouldn't have done this. (I'm the head of dept) any thoughts?

I'm primary but I really feel that so much time is wasted by teachers reinventing the wheel. In fact there should be a centralised curriculum and resource centre provided by the dfe that all staff can work from and adapted to their own schools. It would have been incredibly useful during lockdown. But anything the dfe produces is shit so actually, probably not!

Youe colleague is a twat for calling you lazy. I'm sure your time would be better spent on many other things, decided by your professional judgement.

Thanks, I know it's such a silly way of looking at it. I responded by saying if the pupils benefit then that's the main thing. Yes I love to think of my resources being useful to someone else, all the time making them seems much more worthwhile then.

We used to have a saying at work re 'Proudly Found Elsewhere'.

If you found something that you thought was suitable for your own students, on what planet would it make sense for you to duplicate it yourself?!

Call it collaboration, or widening their exposure to different teaching styles, or to teachers of different age/sex.

I thought that was part of "sharing good practice"? 😉

Thanks everyone. Yes I sort of knew what your thoughts would be, was just in disbelief that I would receive such a phonecall immediately after posting lesson.
