WELCOME TO PART 3!!

Previously

PART 1 started by Oceane11plus in July 2020 for the SW London Girl’s 11+ 2021 cohort (pandemic year).
PART 2 continued the journey (exam pandemic panic).

Both Part 1 & 2 quickly reached the MN quota of 1000 posts!

Will PART 3 be our final episode? Keep supportively posting as we make our final decisions on offers, WL movement & starting Year 7 (hopefully post-pandemic)...

Not here - our welcome afternoon has gone to Zoom as well and DD is really gutted. I think it's made her really nervous actually, she's not very outgoing on Zoom so I don't think she's looking foward to meeting her form via that medium at all.

Other than that we're limping on to the end of Y6 really - everything crossed that her bubble doesn't burst and she can go on her residential and the leavers' party can happen.

Iamsodone · 23/06/2021 23:38

The children’s induction is going ahead as an outdoor event in small form groups early July
But the parents are not able to attend anymore so they will be doing it on zoom.
I don’t mind as long as DD is face to face and physically in the school
she is really looking forward to it and especially meeting new class mates

Confuzzled2020 · 24/06/2021 09:25

We did induction last night. It was supposed to be parents too but given restrictions saying was limited to just kids. They kept in their form bubbles. DD loved it! She met two girls who were sarcastic and loved swimming. Thats her sorted. Parents is tonight via Zoom and I'm nervous for that!

Hi all

Limping on sums it up nicely! Our state primary has pretty much given up on the year. They are doing very little work but have a show to record and fingers crossed a camping trip but we daren’t get too excited.

We’ve been pretty lucky with secondary, we had a family tour around Easter time and a 2 hour icebreaker session at the sports grounds early June. There is a second 1 hour outdoor session at school next week where they meet their form tutor and a few class mates. Parents can peruse school uniform and PA stall if they bring evidence of a negative lateral flow test.

It’s a big reduction on what they’d usually do but I appreciate the effort of trying to do something. The double standards applied to politicians and footballers feel deeply unfair but that’s not schools fault so I guess we just limp on and desperately hope for a more ‘normal’ year 7!

We had zoom induction yesterday. Useful , but not the same as IRL , specially as parents may not get to see whole school. They are hoping for in person event late Aug 🤞. Our current school are giving a pretty decent send off to leavers. We had live play performance in outdoor marquee and a leavers do expected in final week, a school year book in production and sports day next week. Sadly for sports no parents, but we get to attend leavers do in the tent again.

Trialsat11 · 02/07/2021 09:39

We had an in person induction for DD in class bubbles and she was quite happy with the setup .
Our school has outdone themselves after 11+ , DD is on a residential and have also done days out in the past few weeks . Its been a lot of fun in the last few months for her and she doesnt want to miss a day of year 6 now compared to the stressful days last year :-)

MumsRule20 · 02/07/2021 11:12

@Trialsat11 That all sounds very positive. Ours are also keeping them busy with their residential week, sports day is on but only one parent can attend, Yr 6 performance and Yr 6 disco. Nice to have some events in the diary and some “normality” after so much missed in the last year +

It is unfortunate not all schools are not doing the same send off or else in person Yr 7 inductions, considering the easing of government restrictions.

My DD’s school is doing nothing, absolutely zero events. So sad for them all, they just can’t wait to leave now :(

WarmAndco3y · 10/09/2021 16:06

Hope everyone’s DDs are settling well in school. I know it’s early days, but considering all the drama we had when DD was put on WL for her preferred school, she has really impressed. Gone into her new school, and is settling brilliantly and getting stuck in all new adventures and has made a number of friends.

She loves it and has matured so much in the last week. I’m cautiously watching this space and praying it continues as she has started.

Also for future years, people who may read this, we just received an email offering DD a place at wallington girls grammar school, so movement is ongoing.
We had a discussion last night and she wants to stay put, so we will be turning down the offer.

All the very best to everyone

stellagibbons · 10/09/2021 16:47

Lovely to hear that your DD has settled well @WarmAndco3y and that she's happy to stay put!

DD has had a really good first week and loves it so far (other than her first PE lesson which she said was brutal compared with primary school!). We're really happy with our choice so far.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 10/09/2021 17:54

Ooh! Hello Ladies!

I nearly posted earlier this week and then worried I might jinx things.. DD has taken to secondary like a duck to water. She’s already done after school netball, is signed up to after school football next week and about a zillion lunchtime clubs which is making my head spin! The other girls seem very friendly and down to earth, the forms are split by locality so they can travel together. In all very happy so far especially given all the angst!

@WarmAndco3y @stellagibbons lovely to reconnect with you both.
