WELCOME TO PART 3!!

Previously

PART 1 started by Oceane11plus in July 2020 for the SW London Girl’s 11+ 2021 cohort (pandemic year).
PART 2 continued the journey (exam pandemic panic).

Both Part 1 & 2 quickly reached the MN quota of 1000 posts!

Will PART 3 be our final episode? Keep supportively posting as we make our final decisions on offers, WL movement & starting Year 7 (hopefully post-pandemic)...

just checking in again if anyone has heard of waiting list moving (for instance following the deadline for acceptance of state school places on Monday? Thanks

Tr0ubled · 17/03/2021 14:12

@lamsodone not heard a thing, but keeping my fingers crossed that you do as in turn we might too!

PatoPato · 19/03/2021 17:27

Heads up - looks like there's a WHS place up for grabs reading through another active thread today!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 20/03/2021 08:13

@PatoPato Crikey! It’s all getting a bit heated isn’t it?!

How is everyone doing? I’ve not heard much on WL moving but the 14 day cooling off period must be coming to an end (or passed) for many applications now and I guess first terms fees due in a couple of weeks?

All happy in our household. DD got to choose our languages which made it all feel a bit more real. (Haven’t dared buy uniform yet) Keeping fingers, toes and eyes crossed that restrictions get lifted so the induction events during summer term can go ahead. How’s everyone else feeling?

stellagibbons · 20/03/2021 10:14

@Stircrazyschoolmum all good here as well - DD has chosen her Yr 7 core language as well and we've been notified of her house. We'll get the full induction pack by the end of the week I think.

DD is due a growth spurt so I'm holding off on uniform for the time being - I also can't decide how much to get!

Trialsat11 · 20/03/2021 15:09

The same here. DD has started practising the walk to school in preparation for Year 7 and had taster language sessions .
Our induction event is planned for September and I hope the restrictions are gone by then !

Corblimbea · 20/03/2021 16:33

We have also been practicing the journey! Though it’s very local for us. We’ve also started thinking about trips and uniform. Does anyone else’s school do a trip at the start of year 7? Feels odd after our girls haven’t had the traditional year 6 trip.

stellagibbons · 20/03/2021 17:05

@Corblimbea yes - ours does a PGL type weekend away at the start of Y7 - DD is really looking forward to it.

Athough we're still hoping she might get to do her Y6 trip (originally September, re-booked for late-May so it might happen!

indimum · 21/03/2021 21:42

Hi all, glad this thread is still going.
DD has also chosen her language . I will wait till summer to buy uniform. Ditto with trial runs. Sadly her school has confirmed there will not be a residential trip for summer term. The new school does some bonding days, not sure about trips. But I think her snd her friends are beginning to think more about New school . Excited and scared a bit , and a bit sad too that they are splitting up .
I have managed to connect with fellow parents and hope the girls can meet soon .

dinosaurinmybelly · 22/03/2021 12:22

Hello - I spoke to a mum yesterday who told me that pretty much everyone at her DS school who was on the WL for Alleyn's have now been offered places. Hope those who were on the WL and keen on Alleyn's have also had positive news.

Iamsodone · 22/03/2021 12:40

@dinosaurinmybelly have you heard of WL moving for DDs at Alleyn's as well ? or is it just for DS ?
we have heard of quite a few DS not taking offers there, but very few DDs.
Thanks

dinosaurinmybelly · 22/03/2021 12:49

Hello - no, it was a mixture of boys and girls. Her DS is at a co-ed prep school. I imagine if the school might prefer to offer a WL place to a boy if a boy has not taken the offer and vice versa. It just struck me as important because she said at least 5 WL offers had now turned into real offers there, so good to hear the WL is clearing.

Iamsodone · 22/03/2021 13:10

@dinosaurinmybelly got you
I also imagine they prefer offering a prep school if a prep school has not taken the place offered. different pools to draw from.

thank you

dinosaurinmybelly · 22/03/2021 13:21

Ah possibly. Hadn't thought of that.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 22/03/2021 22:38

My understanding of alleyns was they were v strict about how their places were allocated.. so a girl place goes to a girl and a state place goes to state. No movement that I'm aware of..

Stircrazyschoolmum · 29/03/2021 17:03

Popping on to wish everyone a happy easter holiday (and bump us back up thread!) Has everyone make a decision now? I'm guessing first terms fees due after Easter?

We had lovely news that DD can come and visit PHS on 19 April.. she is so excited!! Fingers crossed the induction events pencilled for June will also go ahead..

This is my last baby at primary school... feeling slightly bereft!

11plusNewbie · 01/04/2021 08:14

just checking on everyone, has everyone now got a place they are happy with ? or anyone still waiting?

The winter term's fees are about to be due in full (due to the one term's notice), so any one jumping ship passed that due date, will be losing a whole term, not just the deposit.

Skatingpark97 · 01/04/2021 09:02

The Faulkner house girls thread in Primary Education has stats on dd moving to Hammersmith secondaries from a handful of preps.

Confuzzled2020 · 01/04/2021 15:58

@Flossietea how did you get on the email list for Schoolblazer? I am registered but cant seem to find any mailing list? I would like to be informed of future sales!

Flossietea · 01/04/2021 16:00

@confuzzled2020 I think you’re on it if you’re registered! That’s all I did.

Confuzzled2020 · 01/04/2021 16:03

@Flossietea. I didnt get an email in March! Or maybe I did in Junk when I was super busy with admissions etc. I am assuming they will have another sale in July - I hope so!

Losingthewill01 · 02/04/2021 18:03

Having a slight panic after reading the recent posts about uniforms!! Surely we don’t have to start getting them this early do we??? My DD seems to grow a foot over night recently!!! Grin We chose Sutton High in the end and need to start trying the short train journey as it still fills me with dread her going alone! Hoping there will be others travelling from Wimbledon same way! At least we all made it our the other end of a horrific 11+ year! Pat on the back to us all! X

Losingthewill01 · 02/04/2021 18:05

@Corblimbea our school is planning a week long PGL at the end of may fingers crossed! Does Sutton do a trip in the first week??? Shock

Hi everyone, when we thought the panic for choices was over and the dust had settled, the topic has resurfaced again in our house.

DD had accepted an offer at LU and this weekend we got an offer from TGS. If it was any other school, we would have probably passed without second thoughts. But a mix of the financial implications and some reconsiderations about single Sex education after the “everyone is invited” situation have left us very confused about what to do. Clearly DD is completely bought in LU since few months. Any advice from people that have compared the 2 schools would be very helpful. Thanks 🙏
