WELCOME TO PART 3!!

Previously…

PART 1 started by Oceane11plus in July 2020 for the SW London Girl’s 11+ 2021 cohort (pandemic year).
PART 2 continued the journey (exam pandemic panic).

Both Part 1 & 2 quickly reached the MN quota of 1000 posts!

Will PART 3 be our final episode? Keep supportively posting as we make our final decisions on offers, WL movement & starting Year 7 (hopefully post-pandemic)...

@Pigtastic - I have a DS in Y7 at LU and had to choose between Tiffin Boys and there so vaguely similar! I also have a DD at an all girls school. Feel free to PM me!

When buying school uniform, five blouses, three skirts, at least two jumpers, and a blazer if required. Knee socks last longer than tights; in either case, six pairs is a good number. Starting out with deep hems on skirts at least two inches too long allows room for growth. If possible, only buy sports kit items that will be used. Check with the parents of other girls at the school on this. If the school requires a tennis racquet/hockey stick/cross, ask the school if they have a recommended vendor. You can save and be sure to get the right item thus. Buy the best available mouthguard. Dental damage is wicked expensive on either side of the pond.

11plusNewbie · 19/04/2021 21:34

I don’t think it is necessary to buy so many pieces to start with, especially as the kids are likely to continue to go to school in sports kits for a number of times a week over the next school year.

ChnandlerBong · 21/04/2021 10:57

snort at 'deep hems on skirts'! they'll all be hitching them up before you know it!! Buy one or 2 and replace as necessary surely?

and knee socks - surely no self respecting secondary school kid would wear knee high socks?

Iamsodone · 21/04/2021 11:35

@ChnandlerBong :)

I just wondered if anyone has had wobbles about their choice of school following the everyone's invited website, DC open letter or the KCS/WHS letter ?
or maybe it has reinforced the idea that the right choice had been made ?

dinosaurinmybelly · 21/04/2021 12:37

It's interesting isn't it. I've spent time reading the DC letters and testimonials and see the fact this is being discussed and addressed by all schools as a huge positive.

It hasn't made me question our choice of school but our school isn't hugely implicated. I think that even if it had been, I would then look to see how the school now addressed it rather than looking back at what had happened in the past. I can see how it is unsettling though.

dinosaurinmybelly · 21/04/2021 12:39

I'm hoping DC stay in school this term to have a proper final term at primary school and really keen to start feeling connected to the new secondary school with a possible event in June for us. I imagine class lists will start to appear soon and language choices etc.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 21/04/2021 14:18

@Iamsodone We’ve not been particularly impacted (on a personal level) by the Everyone’s invited debate. But I agree with @dinosaurinmybelly that it’s how the schools are handling it (both now and going forward given the kids are interacting face to face again) that will be telling and it feels like a subject that needs lots more debate and education.

More generally we were lucky enough to FINALLY get a school tour on Monday. I was having kittens that DD and DH would take a sudden disliking to the school and it would all be on my head, but fortunately they both came out grinning ear to ear and the only downside for DD is having to wait till Sept to start.

I’m keeping everything crossed the two induction events scheduled for this term take place. We know our languages and will hopefully find out class lists and house which will start making it all feel really real. No plans to buy uniform yet as DD is growing like a weed!

I wonder how next years cohort are feeling? Hard to predict whether schools will plump for ISEB again or revert to their own papers?

stellagibbons · 21/04/2021 15:11

@Stircrazyschoolmum great news on the school tour - I'm really hoping we get to do our induction event in July and have been promised a school tour then if it happens on site!

On the ISEB thing - I was looking at something on the JAGS website and it looks like they are going with the same format this year as last (i.e. ISEB) - presumably they can't guarantee they'll be able to host an exam onsite yet?

We got a letter from the Head about the DC allegations and I was really happy with her response - I strongly feel that she has the girls' backs in all this. Which is fortunate as it all broke just after we'd declined our state option so didn't have a back up!

MumsRule20 · 21/04/2021 16:48

@dinosaurinmybelly Don’t let it put you off and question your choice - it seems that almost every school has testimonials on that site now and this is all nothing new. Was going on when I was at school how ever many decades ago! Stories that could be told from those days and the impact.

The airing and public forum can only help to bring about positive change and hopefully install a new culture and also for mother’s to be aware on educating their boys on such issues and the hope more awareness on misogyny and such culture is no longer in play in such traumatic ways. Glad to hear heads are waking up to it and hoping the awareness makes the perpetrators think twice!

A few girls in our prep have been offered WL places this past week, so things must be moving again. Is anyone still waiting? Not sure we would move our choice at this late stage now, but we aren’t waiting on a school.

Iamsodone · 05/05/2021 13:06

@Corblimbea
would you be able to say which schools have offered places ?
we have had an offer from a selective state over the Easter break and a "WL not moving" email from an indie last week.
not hearing anything else apart from a little movement on the state side.

HighRopes · 05/05/2021 15:19

I’ve heard (friend of a friend) that the WHS waiting list moved this week.

Tr0ubled · 10/05/2021 09:43

We haven’t had any movement on our waitlist places, and like lamsodone had an email from one school last week saying list hasn’t moved.
Too late for us now as we can’t afford to throw away the fees paid to the school we’ve accepted.
Keep wondering if this had been any other year how different it would all be for our DD...

WarmAndco3y · 10/05/2021 10:23

I know what you mean @Tr0ubled. We are slowly coming to terms with it all.
We have been told more than expected accepted places, so a few will need to drop out for a space to become available.
DD is keen to try for year 8, but I don’t know if I can face that. Also she may be really happy in her school, and not want to move. So focusing on all the new opportunities ahead. Smile

I now wonder what was deleted !
I think it's best to try and keep a positive attitude towards the future for everyone's sake. A tough year for all.

This thread has been fascinating reading.

Any SW London parents with year 5 girls taking tests in Dec/Jan for entry into year 7 in 2022?

Worth starting a new thread or contunuing on this old one?

SkaterGrrrrl · 26/05/2021 12:46

continuing.

Damn.

Mumalsoasfriend · 26/05/2021 13:18

@SkaterGrrrrl

continuing.

Damn.

I am looking for a suitable thread to join. My DD will play the game this autumn. I have found this thread together with the other two are amazingly helpful!
little0miss0mac · 26/05/2021 16:36

Looks like you need a new thread! There's one every year so you could take the glory... 😃

MumsRule20 · 26/05/2021 22:06

@SkaterGrrrrl @Mumalsoasfriend Yes definitely start a new thread with the entry dates in the thread name as @little0miss0mac said a new one for SW London gets going each year.

Hopefully, this particular one will continue once girls start Yr 7 this September 21 and some experiences are shared!

Hope yours goes easier than all ours did! Good luck.

Hello - how is everyone doing now as we approach the final weeks of Year 6? Our induction event has become a zoom call which is unfortunate :(

Has anyone managed to get into the senior school for a visit?
