Hi Parents -
Do any of you have sons in St Albans School , independent school for boys. Please can you provide some feedback on the school please, mainly on facilities , care and how comfortable your child feels there. Does the day feel very long etc. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

You might get more responses on the www.elevenplusexams.co.uk forum under independent schools.

Good facilities. Lots of extra curricular stuff on offer. DS very happy there and has made firm friends. He knew no one when he started there but when the offer came decided on that one over others. Obviously it's private with no doubt its share of landed gentry and/or considerably richer than yows etc but there are lots of working parents and I don't find it snobby at all.

DS travels by school bus from N London and it is tiring but loads of boys do that. Pretty sporty too, although DS isn't particularly school but I think they get the balance about right.

@Love2dance considering this school but the long coach journey puts me off. How long does your DS spend travelling and are his friends geographically spread all over? Thank you.

Thanks so much @Love2dance for the feedback , this is really helpful.

Thanks @nylon14 , this was helpful , I got plenty of info from that forum after you mentioned about that. It has definitely helped make the decision much easier.

Hi @goldpass, I cannot deny that it is quite a journey: an hour or a bit more from door to door (short tube journey then school bus). Our plans for moving to St Albans or thereabouts never got off the ground due to COVID so he is living with it. That said, we discussed this with him and raised the possibility of moving if it was all too much. He was dead set on staying. Now he is a bit older we are looking at public transport via Thameslink, which is very quick from N London.

DS has one friend in our area; others are all over (Stanmore, High Barnet, St Albans). While he hasn't done the dropping in after school thing he has participated in after school activities (there are school buses that leave at 4 and late buses that leave at 6) and has been to various sleepovers and even managed (via the WhatsApp group which connects the boys' and girls' school) to invite a girl from the High School on a date ! Shock
