Independent School waiting list - Y7 admission

Hello,

Has anyone got experience around waiting list at London independent school for Y7 admission? My daughter has been put in a waiting list for one of the London independent school and they told us that they will be able to offer place if any place becomes available. So does anyone have any experience of waiting list? Do schools offer places to waiting list? My daughter is very keen for this school. I have already filled up the interest form but is there anything else should I do?

Thanks

There is often movement once national offers day is over - people will opt for a free place at a decent school which they weren't sure they would necessarily get - particularly if grammar schools are in the mix.

Also, people will have been given places at more than one school, and different schools post offers on different dates so that will need to settle.

Do you knew where your DD is on the list?

Thanks Seeline. We don’t know where she is in the waiting list as school won’t disclose that information. I hope the list is not long.

It varies considerably from school to school and year to year as to how much the waiting list might move.

Schools are often quite specific that you shouldn't contact them, they will contact you as this is a busy time for them and daily contact form worried parents is just something they do not have the staff time to deal with.

If you want specific feedback for the school you are interested in then it might be best to repost this with the school name in the title?

Thanks ChnandlerBong. The school is JAGS.

I believe the JAGS offers only went out today, and offers are not out (but imminent) for most of the other key London girls/mixed schools ( such as Emanuel, Latymer, SCHS, SPGS, CLSG, QCL) so it's very early days and there will be movement amongst them all over the next couple of weeks. Not to mention further movement probably when state allocations come out.

I don't know anything about JAGS, but there's a general view that wait lists are likely to move more than usual this year, because parents have applied to more schools, because of the increase in the number of schools using ISEB. And although I wouldn't pester a school, I would definitely suggest a nice email letting them know they're your first choice. I remember when we went through the school admissions process, the parents at what is now our school being urged to do that by the admissions team if they were wait listed.

Thank you for your feedback. Hope there will be a movement.

Most of the girls schools north of the river will be sending offer emails tomorrow, including several which are likely to attract similar candidates to JAGS. All schools over-offer initially so one person declining a place won't automatically open up a place for the waiting list. I wouldn't expect JAGS to receive enough decisions to go to waiting list before the end of the half-term at the earliest.

I don't know about JAGS specifically but, in the past, some schools have started calling their waiting list literally minutes after their acceptance deadline passed and, in the event they received no answer, moved on to the next person on their list. Try not to be in a meeting with your phone on mute at that time.

Thank you user149799568 for your feedback. I will have to make sure that my phone is not on silent mode in coming weeks.

Hi @HeliK firstly well done on your dd for getting a waitlist place at JAGs - no mean feat. They historically only have a short waiting list - who knows if this is the case this year?

As everyone has said, movement is most likely when the state places are released so hopefully you won't have to wait for too long. Occasionally kids get waiting list places in June/July/August so it is a good idea to know as a family when you would draw a line and move on?

HeliK · 14/02/2021 21:21

Thank you for your feedback. Finger crossed. Let’s see what happens.

Hi @HeliK
Saw your post from last year and curious to know if your daughter was offered a place in JAGS?
I am in a similar situation, got to know my daughter is on the waitlist, they wont tell us her place on the list etc.

NoMoreFries · 10/02/2022 17:33

It can happen right up until end of August you get a call that suddenly you have a place. Things can move right up until the end. I hope you get good news well before then. It's very early days. Well done to your DD.

Thank you @NoMoreFries
Fingers crossed :)
