Halliford waiting list

Hello
Does anyone know if Halliford School in Shepperton have taken from their waiting list in the last couple of years? My son has been put on the waiting list and we are wondering how likely it is that an offer will materialise.

Thanks!

We were waitlisted for another school last year and were told by admissions that it was highly unlikely we’d get a space and to accept other offers. We were Contacted a month later asking if we wanted the space. Co-Ed’s are harder as you have to hope that -if you have a girl- a girl drops out.

I would say, if your heart is set on the place, write and say that you would accept the offer of a place in a heartbeat if it came up. Show you’re really invested in joining the school.

Things do move..... I would HATE to work in admissions. It must be so hard to balance everything.

We are on the waitlist too for a Year 9 place. Have you heard anything yet? Hoping we will hear this week but in the meantime we need to accept our second choice school as their deadline is tomorrow. Hoping that if we do get a place at Halliford, we can get our deposit back. Such an awful process this year.

We’re on the WL for Y7, not heard anything yet. I know quite a few families with dc there and they do tend to take from waitlist every year, some years more than others. This was a strange year with online assessments and higher applications so fingers crossed for all of us!

After8itsgrownuptime · 28/02/2021 20:25

At our prep school I know of about 5 boys that are not accepting their year 7 places so if you apply that logic across the board then I would think the waitlist will move quite a lot. the deadline for acceptance is 4pm tomorrow so I suspect there will be a lot of movement after that

My experience goes back a few years but my DS was offered a place from the Halliford wait list, and I know of others in more recent years who have also had offers after being wait listed, so they definitely do have a history of going to wait list but as PP have said, this is an unprecedented year!

With state offers out tomorrow and the acceptance deadlines for most independent schools this week, the wait lists should hopefully see some movement over the coming days.

From my experience, it is a good idea to drop the admissions team a note (if you haven't already) emphasising how much you like the school and saying that you would definitely be interested in accepting a place for your DS should one become available. Halliford is a lovely school but they also know that they tend (rightly or wrongly) to be a back up option for many boys, so that kind of positivity about the school is definitely viewed as a good thing.

Good luck to everyone waiting!

Hi all

Nothing for us yet. Difficult to know whether to wait or just accept another school, especially when those other deadlines start to loom.

Thanks to those who have given advice above and fingers crossed for all of us on the waiting list!

We don’t have another school!! Just have to wait and see Confused

After8itsgrownuptime · 01/03/2021 12:05

Don’t forget that the hallifords deadline for accepting an offer is today at 4pm. I think it’ll be a couple of days for the school to collate all the acceptances and declines before they can start to go down the waitlist

Our son is on the WL for both Halliford and Reeds so keeping our fingers crossed for some positive movement this week. The letter from Halliford said they hope to be able to make any waiting list offers by the end of the week.

In hindsight I wish we had perhaps applied for some more schools but what will be, will be.

We're now nervously waiting for the state school offers as well as we're in in a bit of a geographical black hole for secondary schools.

Skatingpark97 · 01/03/2021 12:17

@schoolcookie , if you don't get the news you want by the end of this week you should consider St James's Ashford, in the past they have had a March entry option.

Phone call at 8.35am and ds offered a place at Halliford! So happy! Was a bit of a communication disaster, I had two missed calls and a voice message, dh had two missed calls so I phoned back and got voicemail while registrar recalled dh!

That's great news! We had a phone call from Reeds with an offer so understand the relief! Now begins the new worries of school busses, extra homework and making new friends!
Elfie76 · 02/03/2021 09:35

We got a phone call late yesterday from Halliford with a confirmed offer of a place for Year 9. Looks like all the waitlists are starting to move which is great news for everyone!!!

FlyingPandas · 02/03/2021 09:42

So pleased to hear about some wait list offers-well done everyone!

Maomao11 · 02/03/2021 09:46

That’s great news, did you hear from Reeds yesterday or today? Do you need to chase the schools a lot? We are on the waiting list for Reeds and KGS, so many sleepless nights! Not sure if I should be harassing the admissions more

schoolcookie · 02/03/2021 10:04

We heard from Reeds yesterday. We accepted the waiting list straight away with a short letter in February and phoned last week to ask if they knew waiting list places, which they said they didn't. We tried to keep it light as I'm sure they are swamped with work right now but also wanted to make sure they knew how keen we were without being annoying!

ProfessorPootle · 02/03/2021 10:14

So happy to hear lots of offers are coming through! We though we'd made a mistake only applying to two, got one WL and one straight no. Since applied to another as were really worried as local schools not that great. Such a big relief. I had a few lovely chats with registrar during admissions process and made sure I always replied to everything straight away, didn't do this at all with the no school as that was a back up! Then sent a message last week about how keen we still were and it's worked out 🎉

Cech21 · 21/03/2021 11:02

Hi, did everyone hear re the waitlists now?

somewhereoverthe · 30/03/2021 11:00

I hope everyone heard re waitlists now. Someone mentioned St James Ashford - we have heard they are full this year for y7.
