Hello mums,
My daughter got an offer from GHS - Sep 2021. We live in Reading and do not know many Surrey families.

We may move eventually as it will be a 40 min drive one way, plus she swims in a competitive club....I will be a full time driver if we don't.

My query is which swim clubs should I look in and around GHS where other GHS girls also swim?

Also, any parent here joining the same batch?

Guildford City if she is very hard-core with her swimming. They use the GHS pool and have lots of GHS girls.
Wey Valley for less hard-core but a lovely, small club
Box Hill always used to be good if you live that direction but I think they use the GHS pool - or certainly used to
Rushmoor Royals if you are Farnham/Aldershot way

DD not joining GHS (she is now grown up ex-GHS girl!) but it is a great school and I am sure she will be very happy.

Unless you're moving soon, it's going to be really draining on you both travelling in from Reading and I suspect 40 mins won't be the reality in rush hour Guildford (which is awful!).

Congratulations! Great school. That is quite a commute though - I will be amazed if it is a 40 minute commute though - the traffic crossing the M3 can be pretty bad most mornings (esp. going north) - my guess would be an hour each way in rush hour, so that's almost four hours a day in the car?!

Depending on how far you are from the station, i imagine it would probably be quicker (and a lot easier) by train.

Very few, if any, girls will live as far out as you, but lots will join the train between Reading and Guildford, and there are masses changing trains at Guildford for the London Road train.

Thanks for your replies. We will move...hopefully by summer before school starts.

Thanks @ SparklySnake, I will check out the Guildford City club. During the open day, the pupil who took us around was a swimmer too and went to the city club.

DD has an offer for September 2021. It’s one of our top choices although we are still waiting to hear back from a couple of other schools before we make the final choice. I’ve been looking at the website and I’m really impressed with all the different clubs and sports on offer!

Ghs great school, particularly if you’re did is bright and sporty , that’s what they do best.
Commute wise I used to commute the other way and I’m afraid no way is it 40 mins. You’ll need to allow an hour each way which is not fun I can tell you!
Depending on other commitments moving at least a bit nearer might make life more comfortable.

Hello Aditi

I saw your post and heartiest congratulations for your daughter admission in GHS. Could you please guide us how to prepare for our daughter as we are looking for her admission in year 7 in academic year 2022
