moving UK to US - what grades would kids enter?

Hey does anyone have experience moving kids in Secondary school from the UK to the US? Kids start school a year earlier in the UK (Reception age 4 as opposed to 5 for US in Kindergarden) so my year 10 son, if he moved into a 10th grade class would be a year younger. Do the put the kids in with the same age group and move them down to 9th grade or do they keep them at the same learning level and keep them in 10th? Does anyone have experience with this?

Depends on the state you're moving to but general rule of thumb is they'll be the year below what they were here.
It's also much more common to skip grades/get held back so if you are set on him going into certain grade than its not as difficult as here.

No he would be in grade 9, which is the same as Y10. They graduate at grade 12 (as opposed to Y13 here). I moved to US from UK and was put in my grade equivalent so was consequently a year younger than my classmates.
