Hello all, this thread continues from the previous "Upcoming Girl's Independent SW London Schools 11+ Exams" thread set up by @Oceane11Plus.

@PatoPato cleverly noticed, message slots were running low for the epic long thread as above, so all chat now continues here...

@NoToMisogyny I remember someone saying the GHS deadline was far earlier than some other schools, would LEH be in competition for the same students?

@Flamingoyo my daughter is not academic scholar level but I’ve heard anecdotally there is pressure on them to attend all the school open days, speak with prospective parents, inspectors etc etc. I believe there is pressure to maintain a certain pass mark too? I’m guessing like most things it depends on the school.

Good luck to all the WHS applicants today!

WarmAndco3y · 05/02/2021 07:54

All the best for today, for those waiting to hear from WHS.
is it coming via snail mail, or email?

Oceane11Plus · 05/02/2021 08:16

Good luck to all those waiting for WHS results today. I hope you get good news and you can enjoy the weekend without stressing about the future.
I think all our results are due next week on Thursday/Friday. I'm still fairly busy at work and trying to find some projects to occupy myself at home to avoid thinking about it too much. I fear DD is going to be WL everywhere at best as she doesn't have strong interview skills. Whilst interviews seem to have gone OK, I have the feeling she might have come across as "plain" which these schools don't like.

@Flamingoyo I can't answer your question on academic scholars but anecdotally, in DD's secondary, the academic scholar has been overtaken by many girls and is no longer in the top sets...

Lockdown2021 · 05/02/2021 10:16

Absolutely no pressure on academic scholars at WHS. They have just instigated termly chats with a teacher, there has been one day trip for scholars and they are encouraged to contribute to the school blog and attend a lunch club. Other than that I don’t think anyone else would know who the scholars are. To be honest those who are allocated scholarships at age 11 are not always the shining stars at age 16.

NoToMisogyny · 05/02/2021 10:22

It still fascinates me that LEH wouldn’t even inform parents that they would be sending offers out early. Why shock everyone like that? Doesn’t look very professional when you’ve given a firm date already. But either way i guess it’s better for everyone to know the state of play as early as possible.

Yossahughes · 05/02/2021 10:27

We received an e-Mail this morning stating that letters had been sent out by LEH on Wednesday evening....so stalking the post today!

dazedandconfused11plus · 05/02/2021 10:30

Good news for DD so one very happy girl Star (And I actually burst into tears!)

Will release our other offers.

Good luck everyone, fingers crossed for you all!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 05/02/2021 10:32

Big congratulations @dazedandconfused11plus!! For WHS or LEH?!

Yossahughes · 05/02/2021 10:45

Well done to your DD @dazedandconfused11plus - was that the one you really wanted?

WarmAndco3y · 05/02/2021 10:51

@dazedandconfused11plus congratulations to your DD. Really pleased for you both. What school is this?

WarmAndco3y · 05/02/2021 10:53

@Yossahughes hoping with fingers crossed that your postie comes through for you sooner rather than later, bearing good news

EnnaBella · 05/02/2021 10:53

@dazedandconfused11plus that's excellent news! A Big well done to your DD.. You can relax now xx What school did your DD get into?

Yossahughes · 05/02/2021 10:56

Just received an offer from WHS via e-Mail!!! DD is delighted 😀

Flossietea · 05/02/2021 11:06

DD got WHS! Yay! Still waiting to hear from LEH though... Come on postman!

GU22Mum · 05/02/2021 11:10

Congratulations to who got the offers . We are also waiting for the postman!

dazedandconfused11plus · 05/02/2021 11:12

WHS and LEH, can hardly believe it!!!

Well done @Flossietea @Yossahughes and everyone else. Commiserations for those with WL places. Hopefully people will do the right thing this year and give up WL places as soon as they can. Flowers

WarmAndco3y · 05/02/2021 11:21

@Flossietea and @Yossahughes congratulations 🎉 🥳. You must be so happy and relieved. Well done to your DDs. @dazedandconfused11plus oh, wow!!! To receive both on the same day, that’s amazing. Which one have you decided on and why? If you don’t mind me asking. I’m really just curious, we didn’t apply to either, we are not in that part of town

dazedandconfused11plus · 05/02/2021 11:31

@WarmAndco3y Still want to see the outcome from G&L and Putney next week but LEH is the stronger preference right now.

One of the things that impresses me about LEH is they seem to receive fewer applications than the other super-selective schools, yet achieve some of the best results. So perhaps the most 'value added' of all the schools. And the pastoral care is something they really prioritize so it seems the past rumblings have been dealt with. I also like the fact they are closely connected to Hampton, which means a (potentially unsettling) move to a co-ed sixth form is less likely.

Plus a dog and lovely outdoor space!

But very open to others' thoughts on this most monumental decision!

Trialsat11 · 05/02/2021 11:32

We got a waitlist in the top third and I can't deal with this anymore .

Why does this year has to be so tough !

Flamingoyo · 05/02/2021 11:39

Lovely to see so many of you receiving long-awaited offers.

Thank you @Lockdown2021 @stircrazyschoolmum and @Oceane11plus for your responses. I'm focusing on a happy school career without crazy expectations (rather than results at 16 or 18) so I'm curious if anyone feels that particular schools apply too much pressure to keep up, given that 10/11 year olds are going to change a lot in the next few years.

Fingers crossed for all those waiting.

Flossietea · 05/02/2021 11:42

@Trialsat11 I’m so sorry. I’m certain there’s going to be movement in waitlists this year as so many people applied to so many schools. Everyone can only go to one! If you’re in the top third at WHS that sounds like you have a really good chance. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Trialsat11 · 05/02/2021 11:44

Thank u so much @Flossietea and congrats on your offer

I hope the waitlist starts to move after G&L and SPGS offers come out . My DD is quite heartbroken and very difficult to explain to her that it is an unprecedented year with a large number of applications .

dazedandconfused11plus · 05/02/2021 11:45

@Trialsat11 I would second that - top third of the waiting list sounds really promising. Well done to your DD. Didn't someone say 1,000 applicants to WHS this year, so even getting on the WL is an amazing achievement.

Yossahughes · 05/02/2021 11:57

Just got the post and an offer from LEH too! Can’t quite believe it....now the difficult job of deciding which I want to do as soon as possible to free up the places for the waitlist girls...

Stircrazyschoolmum · 05/02/2021 12:00

We have a WHS offer!! Congratulations to everyone else.. @dazedandconfused11plus two in one day is awesome!

@Trialsat11 try not to be disheartened, I think there will be a huge amount of movement. The difficulty of some offers coming out earlier than others is we can’t do anything until we know where we stand, but I think top third puts you in a very good position. xx
