Hello all, this thread continues from the previous "Upcoming Girl's Independent SW London Schools 11+ Exams" thread set up by @Oceane11Plus.

@PatoPato cleverly noticed, message slots were running low for the epic long thread as above, so all chat now continues here...

@NoToMisogyny

Yea but surely putting everyone on the waiting list is just a polite way of doing the same as saying ‘no’?
This is what I'm thinking..
NoToMisogyny · 04/02/2021 13:33

My friend works at WHS and when I said it was fab that everyone would get at least WL place she said that was a polite/ kind way of saying no. Unless you’re possibly in the top three spaces. Definitely a nicer thing to be able to tell DC though.

SpecialC · 04/02/2021 13:41

@NoToMisogyny and @EnnaBella - yes that's my point about there likely being no hope unless you are in top tier of the WL...

Lockdown2021 · 04/02/2021 13:46

You do need to be in the top 3rd of the WHS waitlist (not top 3 spots) to stand a chance. They will go to waitlist and there will be a lot of movement (esp after state school places come out). Two years ago there was still movement in July on the WHS waitlist. Don’t panic if you don’t get a place immediately, they tend to offer conservatively.

Thanks for this, such a bloody process.. I just want closure on the whole 11+ school jazz.

Normalisboring · 04/02/2021 14:18

Has anybody received a waitlist letter for LEH or are those likely to be sent tomorrow? Thanks for the info re-WHS. It is all rather nerve wracking!

rolloutthebarrel · 04/02/2021 14:19

Just to add, my DD is at WHS. She got a WL place as did a couple of her friends. When we accepted it a few people commented that DCs who get in on WL's often struggle. We haven't found this to be the case at all. It's a numbers game at the end of the day. If you're on the WL they basically think you's be fine! (With probably the caveat that at WHS you do need to be in the right 'zone' if they are basically putting everyone on the list!). The registrar is super helpful and will let you roughly where you are.
DD is in Year 9 and the wait lists for all the schools started to move rapidly after the state school offers. Not much before.

That's so helpful @rolloutthebarrel! Thanks for sharing. I am feeling so anxious about tomorrow! Trying not to let DD see that - we have never at any point openly expressed a preference for any of the schools, so that she feels happy with wherever she ends up going.

Thanks this is useful to know! At least we can ask admissions where our DD sits on the list, if they don't tell us in the wait list offer.
Trialsat11 · 04/02/2021 14:45

@Normalisboring we got a waitlist and I haven't had the courage to tell DD yet as it was one of her better interviews and a keenly awaited result.

I sincerely hope that whoever has applied for multiple schools releases the offers for the less preferred ones as soon as possible .The Registrar did tell us that this year has been unusual with the number of applicants and hopefully the waitlist will move.

Trialsat11 · 04/02/2021 14:46

Just out of curiosity , did everyone who got an offer from LEH fill it as their first choice on the form ?
I think we might have erred on there and something I keep on thinking about as DD really liked it

Thanks this is very reassuring! I'm so pleased your DD and friends have settled in@ WHS after a wait list offer.
GU22Mum · 04/02/2021 16:07

I hear some of us talking about LEH offers/waiting list. Has anyone received the mail? I understand LEH is posting them in 10th. Appreciate if anyone can confirm if they have received.
Thanks

Thanks for that. We haven’t had any post today. Didn’t you get a drama scholarship for Surbiton @TrialSat11? I’m sure the waiting list will move for LEH. This process has been so unpredictable this year. Really not loving schools using snail mail..... Not long now and we can all relax.

Trialsat11 · 04/02/2021 16:23

Yes , we did and drama/sports is the reason DD was very well invested in LEH though it is a good 40 min bus ride .

I just hope we get a more positive reply tomorrow on WHS and I'm holding off communicating the LEH waitlist to DD today .

Yossahughes · 04/02/2021 16:50

We haven’t received anything in the post from LEH either - we’ve tended to get post a day late in the past so I’m just going to put it down to that. Wonder why they decided to send them out early as I thought it would be the 10th?

WarmAndco3y · 04/02/2021 16:51

Congratulations to all with offers.
Re: waiting list, I imagine there will be more movement even in year 7, this time around.
Quite a few schools now releasing results earlier than expected.
All the best for tomorrow as you wait to hear Re: WHS
And roll on next week Thursday 😓

Yossahughes · 04/02/2021 16:56

@trialsat11 was LeH able to tell you where you were on the waitlist? I think LEH is one of the schools that does tend to go through the waitlist quite quickly as lots of people opt for closer schools if they are based in London (like PHS, WHS, G&L. Fingers crossed for you (and that WHS send you a nice big A4 letter tomorrow!)

Trialsat11 · 04/02/2021 17:02

Fingers crossed - WHS is an email tomorrow as per their last update .

@YossaHughes LEH didn't tell us the exact position- just that she was further up and not down on the waitlist . I still feel the offers were based on the entrance test scores as DD had a fab interview but at the same time it was just 10-15 min

JavaTeak · 04/02/2021 20:54

Hi all, I am going back 5 years now but DD2 got in to LEH off the waitlist the day after registration deadline (something like 6th March). She is now in yr 11 and flying-- so don't worry about academics with a waitlist place! I also suspect this year will being a lot of movement on the WL places across the board with everyone applying to 7 or more schools!!!

JavaTeak · 04/02/2021 20:56

Should add that we had already paid the deposit for PHS..! So that was not ideal but DD was so excited about LEH we decided to grit our teeth and swallow that PHS deposit money.

user1468662588 · 04/02/2021 22:02

@Stircrazyschoolmum thanks so
much for this! Possibly this 11+ saga can go on for some time.. who would’ve thought ascertaining a school place could be so complicated - Even when your paying!

Flamingoyo · 04/02/2021 22:09

Sorry to change the topic a bit but I was wondering if anyone (especially from other years) has experience or knowledge of what these schools expect of their academic scholars. I saw a comment on a non-Mumsnet chat stating that the school in question had unreasonable demands. Does anyone have any views or experience?

NoToMisogyny · 04/02/2021 22:25

I’m still fascinated by LEH sending the result out nearly a week early. Why?!

SecondaryCalling · 05/02/2021 07:17

I think LEH posted early so that they had some yes or no decisions before the acceptance deadline. That way they can start offering from the wait list before girls accept a place else where, and maybe turn them down. It must be so hard for admissions teams this year to know who will accept.

My DD was offered a place, and it came as a big shock to get the envelope a week early!
