Hello all, this thread continues from the previous "Upcoming Girl's Independent SW London Schools 11+ Exams" thread set up by @Oceane11Plus.

@PatoPato cleverly noticed, message slots were running low for the epic long thread as above, so all chat now continues here...

@Stircrazyschoolmum Glad the Alleyn's interview went well. Know exactly how you feel with the euphoria of finishing the last interview. At least after that there's nothing to be done!

Congratulations @Flossietea @Sabdav11Plus @Gladtidings1 on your large envelopes! It's a yes for DD too. Certainly feel more relaxed now with something definite for September!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 30/01/2021 17:14

Fantastic news @Flossietea and @dinosaurinmybelly it must lovely to have an actual offer after all the hard work.

@MarshaBradyo I hope your DS enjoyed the interview, they seemed to work hard putting the kids at ease and the good luck video was a really nice touch.

I think there were around 900 candidates and 250 went through (50ish scholarship) this is based on previous years and I don’t think it includes their juniors. So 250 for 100 places? DD thinks there were 8 in her group assessment but from outside the door it sounded like 6!

EnnaBella · 30/01/2021 17:39

My DD school hosted the exam but it was done in one hit with a couple of short break. For schools that split the ISEB pre rest over a few days are very lucky.

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 17:46

Stircrazy ok thanks that’s v helpful. So I guess they have to knock out around half.

Ds enjoyed it and I listened in the end after thinking I wouldn’t. A couple of his answers sounded a bit iffy otherwise seemed like it went well. Writing was good although uploading kept locking us out. Hopefully they got it. We got the thanks for submission screen in the end. Did you get a confirmation email at all?

Overall I’m really pleased for him as we didn’t tutor etc but I’m not sure how it will go, can only wait!

Tr0ubled · 30/01/2021 17:58

@MarshaBradyo nope but wish I did! In a non Covid year I guess we’d see how many are at the school on interview day. Feel so in the dark this year about all aspects of this process.

DD felt her interview went quite well but who knows if it was enough. From what I could hear there were definitely far more confident children in the group interview with what felt like far better answers to the questions. But then they can’t just take one type of child so hopefully she stood out in other ways🤞🏻

Well done to those with offers coming through today, what a relief to know there’s one or two under the belt.

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 18:03

Troubled that’s how I felt about the group interview. There were a couple of answers that sounded really well prepared - very on topic and considered - Ds was more random with one answer that was a bit strange Grin

But I hope his writing helps and the random questions in the one to one interview seemed to go ok.

I also have it in my mind that a high proportion who get offered Alleyn’s take it as first choice but maybe that’s not the case.

stellagibbons · 30/01/2021 18:04

Great news on the Surbiton offers!

Alleyns people - glad the interview went well. When are they sending out offers - in line with JAGS?

stellagibbons · 30/01/2021 18:06

Yes - presumably if a significant number of Alleyns applicants see it as first choice, they won't over offer by much?

LittleBlackBear · 30/01/2021 18:14

How would Alleyn’s know who sees them as their first choice - do they ask at interview?

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 18:24

They don’t ask at interview but just knowing from classes of dc that go for it those who get offered all take it first. I don’t know if this is just coincidence. Or maybe benefit to being known as quite selective.

Still 250 for 100 places sounds pretty high. And a tough gig choosing dc out of that.

I meant to say congratulations to all Reeds offers and Surbiton! Really great to know you have one already.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 30/01/2021 18:50

@MarshaBradyo we didn’t get a confirmation email but took a picture of the ‘thank you’ screen as proof of submission. DD’s writing was probably her weakest area. But came across as quirky and original.

Her response to the most random question (you know the one!!) was VERY random and had the interviewer in stitches.. some of her others were a bit ropey but I’m guessing they can spot an over prepared child a mile off.

@stellagibbons. I wish jags and SCHS would get a move on and offer.. they’ve been sitting on exam results for ages!!

MarshaBradyo · 30/01/2021 18:55

Stir making the interviewer laugh is a great sign I reckon! Yes I’m hoping not coming as over prepared is a good thing

Ok cool good idea on pic, should have done that but I guess we’d find out if not

sera12 · 30/01/2021 19:36

Hi Everyone,
This is such a helpful thread. We received an offer from Surbiton High and are very pleased. We also have an offer from Sir William Perkins. We will need to decide within couple of weeks.

yellowspanner · 30/01/2021 20:47

DD got straight into Alleyn's last year but two friends got in off waiting list a little while later. And another friend turned it down.

Iamsodone · 30/01/2021 21:06

What what it’s worth I know of a few families who, given the choice, would take single sex schools first, so would rather take JAGS/WHS/KCS or DC over Alleyn’s. Nothing against Alleyn’s at all, just a preference for single sex schools, if the option presents itself. Except DC, they have all used the ISEB pre-test this year.

Yossahughes · 31/01/2021 08:04

Congratulations to everyone on the Surbiton offers! It’s great to have one in the bag and it’s a great school.

I saw on another thread that WHS may have done a third round of scholarship interviews. Did anyone’s DD attend one of these?

anotherdayanothertier · 31/01/2021 13:05

Before anyone panics the third round WHS interview related to a few years ago!

Trialsat11 · 01/02/2021 11:26

Have been out in the cold looking out for the postman as we didn’t get the Surbiton post on Saturday !
Finally ended with an offer and a drama scholarship and DD is quite relieved .. makes me nervous about the delay in offers coming in by post !

stellagibbons · 01/02/2021 11:43

@Trialsat11 great news, and congratulations on the drama scholarship!

Yes, any school using snail mail is going to seriously test my nerves!

NCWH · 01/02/2021 12:02

SCHS results come out on 11th February apparently

SpecialC · 01/02/2021 13:19

Hi everyone! Joining this thread as we anxiously await results!! Our Surbiton letter has not yet been delivered... I've already been outside the house around 40 times and for a walk around the block, but have yet to spot to postie!!

WarmAndco3y · 01/02/2021 23:54

Well done and congratulations to your DD on her scholarship offer @Trialsat11 Lovely to read such good news

@SpecialC welcome to the thread. Did your postman turn up. It’s really not good for the nerves, having to stalk the postie

WarmAndco3y · 01/02/2021 23:59

For what it’s worth Re Alleyn’s, I don’t think 250 offers for 100 places is unreasonable in this ISEB year. It’s really going to be tricky as so many people in the top tier ( if I can use that word), will receive multiple offers.
I know of 2 people in my older DD’s year that were offered Alleyn’s and chose JAGS instead, one of them has an older sibling in Alleyn’s , but she preferred JAGS.

SpecialC · 02/02/2021 00:49

@WarmAndco3y yes the postman did turn up with a large envelope, thank goodness!
Not good for the nerves indeed - I think the next 10 days will age me terribly!!

Stircrazyschoolmum · 02/02/2021 08:14

Congratulations @SpecialC and @Trialsat11 (plus any more I’ve missed!) The drama scholarship is the icing on the cake trial.. does it sway you particularly or are you still waiting for more offers?

How many of us are waiting for WHS? Their website says offers ‘around’ 5 Feb I hope that means earlier rather than a long anxious weekend!

Anymore due this week?
