Secondary Admissions question

Purely based on the Admissions Code.... when nothing is listed about this in the schools own policy.....

If you apply on time by the 31st Oct deadline, but then genuinely move house on the 14th of December, would it be the address that you lived at on 31 Oct that would determine distance from the school?

Would moving closer on 14 Dec not make a difference?

I think they use the new address in that case and still treat it as an on-time application. If the move takes place after that Dec date, I believe it’s treated as a late application. But hopefully someone can confirm. Are you able to contact your local authority / admissions team?

You need to check LA policy as to whether later moves can be updated.

The local authority should have a policy e.g. for my LA for PRIMARY schools, it is end of Jan I think.

It’s a secondary academy so the school is it’s own admission authority, if that clarifies.

They should use the 31 Oct address. Some admissions authorities allow addresses to be updated if they're within a short period of time after the 31 Oct (weeks not months) while still being treated as on time. Others don't offer any leeway.

Regardless, once the initial allocation has happened, the new address would then be used to rank waiting list places, so even if the new address wasn't used and the new nearest school not allocated initially.

@titchy that’s is exactly what I thought should happen. Thank you.

Our LA policy states “ If you move into the area after the closing date, but before 10 December 2020, and you can provide documentary evidence to confirm this, your application will be processed at the same time as those applications received by 31 October 2020.” - so if moving borough (London) it’s ok but not if moving within the borough. It probably differs everywhere.

Thank you yes I was also told that moving “into” the borough was treated differently to a house move within the borough itself.
