6th Form Applications and deadlines

I missed the 6th form applications for the grammar schools, still have the chance for some other schools..
We fought long Covid-19 and I am unsure if the school of my DD informed us when we have to apply for 6th form - of they did-I certainly missed it.

What will be the best way to do a late application and what are our chances please. We had a private tutor, who also let us down and never mentioned anything about it.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you.

If you're interested in your DD's current school sixth form, they will probably be quite happy to take an application now. Generally they will give priority to their current students (as long as they meet entry criteria).

For other schools, I'd suggest you contact them directly and ask. It will partly depend on how popular they are. Many sixth forms are desperate for numbers.

Our local Grammar has a closing date of Feb 15 for 6th form
Might be worth double checking?

Many thanks.

Our local grammar schools closed applications, but I am checking with each school separately.

We are in Chis & Sid area.

@Outlander13, if your child's current school is a state school with a sixth form, it shouldn't matter that you didn't fill in a form by a certain date ... so long as she meets the minimum academic entry criteria she is entitled to transfer directly into year 12 without reapplying - if the school tells you otherwise they are wrong and if you were to appeal you would/should win.

I'm not sure why you think it was the tutor's job to tell you about application deadlines. There isn't a coordinated admissions process like there is for year 7 - if you want to transfer your child to a different school you need to look at the sixth form admissions policies on individual school websites. Most will prioritise places for their own students and have a certain number of places open to external candidates.

Don't be afraid to put in late applications, especially if the sixth forms you're interested in aren't oversubscribed. In our area there is a surplus of sixth form places. Whereabouts do you live?

If you are near Chis n Sid have you looked at Newstead Wood grammar in Orpington? Co-Ed at sixth form. Closing date 31st Jan. DD is in Y11 and planning on staying on. The school have been superb in lockdown and generally.

Thank you all for the input, I am processing the applications for couple of local schools, unfortunately we missed the private schools.

I am not born in England and was unaware of the system.

@PettsWoodParadise, thanks for the idea, I will have a look at the travel and required grades, Chis & Sid, Townley as well are still open.

We are not happy with the existing school, therefore wanted to change school.
