UK Exams still going ahead for English Expat Pupils

DD is Year 12 English school abroad. Has been told that she will sit exams(AS levels) even though the school is closed and she is distance learning ..I've tried to get my head around it but it seems inequitable to give this advice..we are still with edexcel and taking UK certified exams ....

It’s affecting dc here in the uk too. Many alternative education settings like online schools use international exam boards

We’re being told the same at the moment, the last email from school at 10pm last night said we have to work on the assumption that exams will still take place but to book into the school exam centre so that if it goes to assessed grades they then do the award

meditrina · 06/01/2021 10:40

It would be unfair if exams were being cancelled generally in the country where you live.

Whether exams can be run is a question for the education authorities where you live. Not the organisations which set, sell and mark the exams.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 06/01/2021 11:11

Meditrina, I am in England and the exam centre is in Wales so we are affected

As DD is placed at her school under an EHCP due to an unusual disability we have little choice in exam boards

Just wanted Gavin W but still not clearer for us all I guess there will be more clarification..sorry to hear you are also coping with ambiguity as well ...

There is no reason for interntional exams boards not to continue with their exams though.

desertcoffeeyoga · 06/01/2021 16:47

But if the schools are closed that puts the pupils in the same situation as their peers in the UK so would make sense to have a fair and level system

Season finale, we have explained that uk students use these exam boards too thus your logic is flawed

Some of my daughters classmates have to book flights and accommodation in the uk to access exam centres, we have to travel long distance which as all our family are cv and ECV to covid is worrying

Currently there are many logistical problems with this, some lessons are being missed due to staff sickness and it is raising anxiety in the young people some of whom already had this happen with their GCSEs

It should be fair for all children

desertcoffeeyoga · 08/01/2021 03:04

Still watching the news... and as you say Tomnooktoldmeto this impacts UK children abroad but also UK pupils in England who are taking these versions of the exams. Should be fair to all....

I thought I would update with the latest information being issued by Pearson/edexcel to us from school

Currently they are still planning to run the exams in May/June for international students but may look at UK based students further to see if this is possible

Not really helpful, is increasing anxiety for dd who is already medicated for anxiety

Other students would normally fly in to the uk to take the exams and this is unlikely to be possible

I am ECV dd and DH are cv, what a clusterfuck!

desertcoffeeyoga · 10/01/2021 09:34

@Tomnooktoldmeto what you probably need is a bit of clarity at the moment...not this on top of everything else at the moment, it seems that these kids are forgotten in these announcements we had the same with the gcses...really won't help their anxiety levels ...and also not creating a level playing field when some people have taken the exams and others had their grades assessed....I am so sorry that you are going through this stress too with added pressure

Thank you to Oxford AQA for taking the time to listen. Please fill out this survey they have provided for parents. Even if your child isn’t on AQA, if AQA were to cancel it would put more pressure on edexcel and the international boards usually follow each other www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/2ZZ8CNY

Tomnooktoldmeto · 11/01/2021 09:15

Thanks historysmiles12 I have completed the survey

desertcoffeeyoga · 11/01/2021 10:00
