Hi All, my girl has just got the offer from St Mary's school and would like to know anyone has any comment on it as the school is mixing the curriculum with GCSE & IGCSE , does it have any impact on 6th form or university in future ? Thanks

I don’t have children at the school but do know girls that have gone from St Mary’s to Hills Road recently and done well so I’m guessing it’s not too much of a problem.

I used to live near it, and the pupils used to talk through the window to my cat. As a result I think it is a lovely school.
There were still a lot of nuns teaching back then, and we occasionally had tea in the convent parlour.
Good luck with your decision!

Thank you, as long as there is no adverse comments, this school should be good, thanks Smile

It seems that you are not local. If you are looking for boarding, you may want to consider the fact that the boarders at the school may be too international.

eggandonion · 30/12/2020 15:06

We spent a term in Cambridge, long after our days with the cat... our kids were in school in Newnham, it certainly was international. There are often visiting academics staying in college accomodation around that
area, so people can come and go. Ourselves included.
It is up to you if you see that as a plus or minus. Traffic can be horrible if you are doing a school run by car. But lots of walking or cycling routes via common land and leafy suburbs.

Yes, thanks all for your valuable comments, really appreciateSmile

It is also quite normal for independent schools to do a mix of gcses and igcses and different boards as they are not restricted by the state as to which to take and the schools can decide for themselves which suits their school/pupils best. The Perse School also in Cambridge and in the top 10 indies consistently does exactly the same.

It will have no impact on 6th form or unis.

The children I know who are or have been at St Mary’s are lovely, well mannered, chatty kids and the school seems to be good at supporting children for who they are. It’s extremely popular for those wanting single sex education in Cambridge. All other independents in Cambridge are now co Ed.

I have a couple of friends with daughters at St Mary's. All seem happy and are doing well.

Gracess · 31/12/2020 17:43

Great to hear that, I hope my girl can accommodate well in this schoolGrin
