Glenthorne School banding test

Hi all,
My DS sat the banding test for Glenthorne - I have just been told which band he falls into.
I don’t know anything about the bands at the school so just out of interest wondered how many there are and what it means. Is Band 1 the top band? I know it’s not an academically selective school but just wanted to have some light thrown on it all.

The information regarding banding is on the school's website, in the admission policy section. There are nine bands in total, with band 9 being the highest ability band.

Thanks yes I just spotted it!

Also interested in the banding... does anyone know what the child would have approx scored % wise for each banding.

From the school itself (www.glenthorne.sutton.sch.uk/app/os#!website/joining-us-2/september-2021)

Band 1 Below 74
Band 2 74-81
Band 3 82-88
Band 4 89-96
Band 5 97-103
Band 6 104-111
Band 7 112-118
Band 8 119-126
Band 9 Above 126

These are standardised scores, I.e. it's not the sum of the raw scores in each English and Maths. The average score would be 100, hence the largest number of places will be allocated to children in Band 5, as the test is used to ensure a comprehensive intake, rather than select then by ability.

Funnily enough, my DS said the test was reasonably hard, as he felt very pressured for time (he qualifies for exam concessions for time, and was given it by Sutton grammars, for example, but not by Glenthorne).

Thanks!
My son didn't manage to finish (15 questions) and received a lower band than expected. Would be interested to know how many points each question accounts for - to see how well he did from the questions answered.

I couldn't find the link but remembered saving this from when DS was applying to schools. It's a couple of years out of date but particularly useful because it shows how far admitted children lived from the school within each band.
Hope somebody finds it helpful.

Yes if you are in band 9 for Glenthorne then you have a very good chance of a place but if you are in band 9 then you would also have passed for the selectives. So it benefits really clever children who had a shocker in their SET.

Its a very good school.

They take less than 10 kids from band 9 - more for band 8 and so on with most places in middle bands - which makes sense.
Interested in knowing how people find the school - are there sets? I have heard good things about behaviour management and I like that it’s co-Ed unlike our local comp but would be great to hear from parents.
