We just want our kids in school. Please. If at all possible.

And driving lessons. And good Mental Health. And happiness.

In-and-amongst all this Covid nightmare and lockdown debacle.

@estherfrewen I always feel I would be more of an Esther than a Miranda but like to pretend to myself Grin

estherfrewen · 11/01/2021 15:15

I just don’t want to be a Lois @MirandaWest! Am Esther by temperament but sadly not by looks. Have just started rereading the books to cheer me up!

sandybayley · 11/01/2021 15:17

I know that ignorance of the law is no defence but the no-driving supervision in England is news to me! Poor DD, driving was one of her last pleasures.

Directionerforever · 11/01/2021 15:35

Same @sandybayley. Gutted for them.

Monkey2001 · 11/01/2021 15:59

@MirandaWest we have not stopped DS from seeing GF, none of us are sending anyone else, DS1's GF is living with us and I know DS2 and GF don't distance, but I feel that it is unreasonable to expect them to. In Scotland, as well as letting them drive for essential purposes, non co-habiting couples have always been allowed to see each other indoors. Maybe that is what happens when a woman is in charge!

Monkey2001 · 11/01/2021 15:59

none of us are SEEING anyone else

KingscoteStaff · 11/01/2021 16:03

@MirandaWest @estherfrewen Re-read Falconer's Lure on Saturday. Definite security blanket.

I found DD re-reading Beverly Cleary's Ramona books - I'm sure for the same reason.

estherfrewen · 11/01/2021 16:12

@KingscoteStaff @MirandaWest - just reread Peter's Room. First read probably 40 years ago. Happy times!

MirandaWest · 11/01/2021 18:44

@estherfrewen @kingscotestaff are either of you in the Antonia forest FB group? They’ve been doing read through there recently which I’ve really enjoyed.

I think I may reread Ramona soon tbh

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 18:52

Our driving instructor sent me this.

Corona Cohort - Year 12 - 2021 - NO 'Self isolating' please.
icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 18:53

It says we can go out. But only for essential journey.

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 19:00

I'm wondering if that is for instructors only. If I click the link he sent me I get that. But if I google "can I practice driving" it shows as not in England.

estherfrewen · 11/01/2021 19:02

No @MirandaWest but will have a look. Thanks!

Directionerforever · 11/01/2021 19:11

What is the link for that @icanbewhatiwant?

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 19:16

@Directionerforever I tried to add link. But can't ☹️

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 19:22

Does that work?

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 19:22

Must be for instructors? When he sent me the first screenshot I thought we could go out.

icanbewhatiwant · 11/01/2021 19:40

Now he's sent me this and said he's asked his other instructor colleagues and they've said we can take them out on essential journeys. I'm not so sure though.

Corona Cohort - Year 12 - 2021 - NO 'Self isolating' please.
Directionerforever · 11/01/2021 19:54

@icanbewhatiwant that’s great thanks, yeah it says at the top it’s for driving instructors. So driving instructors can supervise their bubble on essential journeys but parents can’t? How does that make sense. My dad is a driving instructor and has been teaching DD, so theoretically if we were in a bubble, DD could drive my dad to the shops but not me 🤦🏼‍♀️

Directionerforever · 11/01/2021 19:56

Oh it took me so long to write that post it’s been superseded. Ugh. Why is none of it straightforward and clear?!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 12/01/2021 17:05

Just checking in, haven't had a chance to catch up as have been madly busy with post Christmas work (always mad) and home schooling. Hope everyone is doing OK?

DS1 has been on a bit of a low since starting back, can not get him back to the determination he had at the start of the school year and I'm now worried. He's missed lessons and not completed assignments. He is getting new report grades in a few weeks which will be going towards his predicted grades and I'm worried enough that I put a bit of a rocket under him. Blush

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 19:13

DS began live lessons yesterday. they ahve a sensible set up for remote lessons Two 2 1/2 hour slots (which is tough when in school!) . They have a lesson for an hour and then are set independent work for the other 1 1/2 or so. Makes sense. Am jealous of those teachers!

It's tough though : isolating, bad for the body, bad for the eyes...

He has just attended a Zoom chat with Birmingham Uni about Social Policy. It was a bit dull but something to focus the mind.

Sorry to here your DS is a bit down just Sad

Directionerforever · 12/01/2021 20:58

Daft question but I can’t really remember from my time (despite it only being 20 years ago 😏) when do they start looking at unis? Would now be the time when they are ordinarily looking around campuses and going to open days etc? Or later in the year? Or not until year 13?

Piggywaspushed · 12/01/2021 21:07

My DS did his open days in Autumn of year 13 but many do them summer year 10. Quite a few online things at the mo.
