Hi. I’m thinking of Sutton high school for my DD senior school. I’d be interested in finding out from anyone who has a child there at the moment in senior school. Views and thoughts on the school.

My DD is in the senior school - you may have seen my post about SHS on the thread in education.
She joined in the senior school, and has been very happy there. Doing well academically, lovely group of friends and happy to go to school. Still lots of enrichment and co curricular stuff on, even though we're in lock down.
DD is musical, and we've found a lot of support and enthusiasm for that. Even during lock down they held concerts and now we're back at school they made sure music is still part of school life.

As parents we are very happy with the school. We feel she gets good support when she needs it, and we've found the teachers responsive and helpful when we have spoken to them. The school has a fairly new head who is really great. Lots of good ideas, and an enthusiasm for the girls and the school that is really energising.

It's a friendly place so I'd suggest you call them if you need more info. I don't think tours are possible right now and I think the online open events are finished but I'd sure the admissions team would be happy to talk thru any questions.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! It’s good to know you are happy with the school as it’s so hard to make a decision without the normal open days and visits etc. It’s always nice to hear from a parent who has a child there as you have the best knowledge of the school. I have found the admissions registrar such a lovely helpful lady! Thank you.

Hi just out of interest how many year 7 classes do they have?

We are looking at Sutton and went on a virtual event. DD already had her Interview last week and her test is next week. I think the head said they have 80 in a year over four classes. We’ve applied and it’s definitely one of our favourites in terms of how they’ve treated us over the process - personal rather than a number! I agree about the admissions lady. Are you looking at year 7 too?

SHparent · 17/11/2020 07:12

There are four classes per year, so I think 80 per year is about right. They are also put in houses so have lessons in classes and in houses and then languages are their own group too. So the DC get to know most people in their year, which also helps with making friends.

Thanks. Do a lot of children come up from prep school or is there a mix of external pupils at year 7?

In my DDs year there were lots of girls joining in Y7. She didn't know anyone when she joined, and it really wasn't a problem. I think the prep school is smaller so there are always lots of new girls into the high school.

Thanks! My DD had her exam last week so I’m hoping she gets a place! 🤞
