Hi there - I were wondering whether any of you know how many pupils join Queen Anne's at 11 and 13 and what your experiences were of your DD's joining at one of these ages (e.g. better to join at 13+ as your daughter was more mature etc versus better to join at 11+ as it gave your daughter a better chance of integrating with her year group)
Thanks in advance for all your comments xx

We’ve known girls join at 11+, 12+ and 13+; the school often has places for joining out of normal years. The only comments against joining later that I’ve heard is that you’re not likely to get in the lacrosse teams. Lacross is their main sport along with netball, but most girls haven’t played before joining the school so will be behind the curve if they don’t join at 11z

I think joining at 11 is better for joining a girls school which starts at 11. Even the traditional boarding schools like Wycombe Abbey, Downe House and Cheltenham Ladies now have their largest intakes at 11 (although do still have considerable numbers join at 13 so not a huge problem). I would ask the school how many join at each point - if it’s 50 at 11 and 20 at 13 then I wouldn’t worry too much. Anything less than 20 could make it hard to break into established friendship groups unless you have a confident girl into lots.

As the PP noted too, sports A teams often get decided in Y7 and don’t tend to change too much, particularly with LAX which is a tricky sport to learn initially.

I also think girls are often ready to leave at 11 and move onto pastures new.
