Eton/Westminster/Winchester required Cat scores

Have a 9 year old DS and just got his English and Maths CAT scores for year 5. These were 140/141 in English and 128/141 in Maths. Does anyone know if this is enough for very academic independent schools? He has had no prep for these tests and will have very little prep for entry to other schools because I don’t believe in tutoring/too much work at his age and I want him to go to a school where he is at least upper average and happy. I really do not want him to feel like he isn’t clever enough. He reads constantly for pleasure and is in the top maths set of his current school- it is not a prep though so they won’t prepare him for external tests. One of the above schools told me to order some verbal and non verbal bond books and do a bit with him next summer. Is there anyone on here with DS at any of the above schools who didn’t do much prep? I was hoping for Max 20 hours in total. 2 hours a day for 2 weeks of the summer holidays on verbal and non verbal with me. My DS seems to mainly make friends with other boys who like academic subjects and then discuss things so that was one of the main reasons for looking at very academic schools.

I did no prep at all with ds for Eton or Winchester. I also don’t know his CAT scores, or if he ever did a test. He got offers from both. I wouldn’t bother with the extra work if your ds is reading and enjoying maths.

The CAT scores are good and certainly high enough. Remember that he will be competing against other children who are equally intelligent and who are doing a lot of prep. He will have to do written exams in English and maths so if he is not at a prep school someone will need to prepare him for these.

He won’t have written exams in English and Maths for either school. Eton have a computerised test and an interview, and Winchester have a short test and longer interview.

Westminster have written papers in maths and English.

DS went to one of the Oxbridge College Schools. They held an assessment day and weren't interested in previous scores. Your DS sounds bright, why not give the schools a call?
