Hi I’m looking to relocate with husband and two girls; 20 months- and 5years, from Northamptonshire to Somerset.

I know secondary schools is a way off but when we buy we are least hoping to be in catchment of good school. Whilst we can look at often ratings it always helps I think to have a few local opinions if at all possible. We are looking at some villages around the Poldens (moorlinch, Chilton Polden, Catcott, Ashcott) since they seem to be option in our budget; good links to m5 so I can occasionally get back to work, and not far from family in north newton. Dd in north newton school As we have moved in with family just to be in area whilst house sells. Heathfield seems great but hoping for more village location than Taunton. We’re open minded though.

We have no regrets and love the area already! But hopeful that when we buy a place it will be able to be home for good long while.so weirdly (or maybe others do this too.) our house search starts with at least schools in mind.

They do not need to be out of this world amazing, but a solid good School where children can flourish and be happy. Independents may be a back up option although a push with two children.

Any thoughts welcome! The only opinion I have atm is my mil who is really pushing against Polden villages etc; (Not quite sure, she talks of there being no culture?) although seems to be good school option of st crispin? We loved the look of it around there.

Any held very much appreciated.

Hi - we are in the Polden Hills area and also moved here so our DDs could grow up in a village location. We have not regretted it and we all love living here.

Yes you do have do drive a bit for a culture fix but within 30 minutes there are theatres in Street, Bridgwater and Taunton. For classical music there is Cedars Hall in Wells.

There are good primary schools in Ashcott and Catcott. Crispin is a great secondary school - DD2 is currently in Year 11 and loves it. DD1 was also very happy there and got fantastic GCSE results and is now doing A levels at college.
