Formal home tuition suggested by school - anyone an experience if this?

Hi, my ds has a Functional Neurological Disorder which means that he has missed a lot of school and hasn't made it in this term (starting year 8). He does homework and catching up on classwork at home but obviously that's not comparable to being in school.

So school have suggested "formal home tuition" I guess through LEA? Does anyone have experience of this? Given general state of public services my expectations are low.....

How/does that connect with school, I asume he keeps his place?

(Home schooling is not an option).

I think I would be a bit wary of the term "formal home tuition." Clearly your child will benefit from any extra tuition but I would be very careful in getting written confirmation that this is extra home tuition over and above attending school as and when they can. There are mechanisms for there to be an element of home tuition whilst still registered at school. You need to confirm this is the case and not the school looking to remove your son from their formal register of pupils and becoming registered for home education.

Thanks. Yes I did wonder about that a bit. I definitely Don't want him removed from the school register...

LAs have a statutory duty to provide education to those too unwell to attend school. Here is the gov document outlining it. The form that EOTAS takes will depend on your LA and DC's needs. It can be home tutoring, hospital school, online provision or tuition outside the home but not in school e.g. a centre they have or a library.

If you google your LA and medical needs EOTAS tuition you may find what your LA provides.

As Admission posted, don't let school deregister DS.

Alongside this you should apply for an EHCNA.
