Hi
Just wanted to see what other schools have been doing.
There are 3 mandatory units and my son studied the first 2 in Y10. The first mandatory unit is fitness for sport and exercise. School set some practise tests last year and have now used these to give him an official grade for that unit.
I looked at the whole qualification on the Pearson website and it states that Unit 1 is externally assessed through an online exam/test. My sons year have not been given this opportunity, but have been graded on the practise tests they did.
Has this happened to other Y11 students or has your teenager done the online test?
So as not to drip feed, he didn’t take the first practise test really seriously and therefore only got a pass grade. The next 2 practise papers, he got distinctions in them both, as he listened to feedback and was cross with himself for just getting the pass first time round. He has now been given an ‘official’ grade of a merit based on the practise papers, but I want to speak to school about why they are not doing the online exam.
He is pretty upset at the merit grade when he feels that he could and would have done so much better in the official exam, considering his distinctions previously. He continued to study for this exam during lockdown.
Just wanted to get a feel for what other schools have done.
Thanks
