Have any of your new Y7 DC been given something like the above to record their timetable and write their homework in?

DS is Year 11 now, but he's had a new planner from school every year.
There is space for his timetable at the front.
A weekly calendar for homework etc, and a section at the back with information.

I thought all schools did this

My DD1 has one every year although this years are delayed due to being quarantined.
Dd2 starts yr7 today but I am sure they do too.
If not I would buy him his own.
Poundland have some if don't want to spend a lot or Amazon.

That's what I thought too! But what with a lot of homework going online now, I wasn't sure they were still being used.

Dd1 has had 2 days in school already and (so far) only been given a paper timetable and a code to use Class Charts (which has a homework tab too).

DD is year 9 and has never had one of these. All homework is online.

Is she in a state comp? And what platform does her school use to set the homework on?

Ds is in Y10 and has never had one and doesn’t need one. The school uses Satchel One (SMHWj and it works well. He is at a state comprehensive.

ChicCroissant · 07/09/2020 13:56

Planner and SMHW/Satchel at my DD's secondary. Planners have to be signed by parents every week as well.

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 07/09/2020 14:21

@Meredusoleil It's a state grammar. Online system is called Canvas and sometimes has technical glitches but usually works well. Can view homework by subject or due date and check it off when it's done.

WaltzfortheMars · 07/09/2020 23:11

My ds's school uses online SMHW/Satchel too. It's great. State.

elkiedee · 10/09/2020 01:37

DS2 has just started, DS1 in year 9 of same state comprehensive. They both have a paper planner but school uses Show My Homework too, and dp and I can log in on the phone/laptop and see what's done or not. There is also another app that was used from March last year for DS1 (then year 8) and I could see whether he'd done tasks - it included tests including spelling where he could have 3 goes, because I did have a look at one point and tell him that I thought he should take the time to have another go etc.

Meredusoleil · 10/09/2020 09:12

Thanks for al the comments. I checked with the school and yes, there is no homework diary or planner any more. Everything is on Class Charts including timetable, behaviour points, detentions and homework!
