Y7 lunch mates

DD really enjoyed her first day but mentioned she had lunch with girls from her year, not her form group.

Should I encourage her to have lunch with her form mates as I'm worried she won't licate those in her year easily, and then friendship groups may have moved on within her form.

I know I should let go but I used to worry about who to eat with.

Honestly, it will come in time. Most of them gravitate naturally towards those they already know best over breaks and lunchtimes - much like you likely would in a new job where your mate worked in the same building but a different room?

School will be doing lots to "team build" them in their forms, they will make friendships as the weeks go on and within a few weeks their friendships will have changed and developed.

Both my kids are friends with people outside their form group (and both basically hate their whole form). I don't think it matters much and as time goes on they get mixed up into sets and then at GCSE move around again. I'd let her do what makes her happy - best to leave them to it a bit more at secondary tbh.

My daughter doesn't have any friends in her house (I guess the equivalent to form group). This is only an issue when they have to sit in that group - but you know life is like that, learning to get along with people you may not be friends with. At lunch or break she can sit with whomever she wants. She gets on with the other girls they just aren't part of her gang.
You can't make your daughter be friends with people - either she is or isn't. Leave her be.
