School bag Holy Grail - does it exist?

I am sick of replacing DS1's Adidas bag every few months and also as he has a long walk if it rains, everything gets soaked. Why does it seem impossible to get a rucksack suitable for school made from a waterproof material?

Can anyone please recommend a bag fitting these criteria?

Waterproof
Padded section for Chrome book
Enough room for A4 excercise books
Decently padded shoulder straps

Coped with showers. I think I may have sprayed it with waterproofing spray like the ones for shoes.

As the boy won't even stop to get his rain coat out of his bag to stop himeself getting drenched, sadly I don't imagine he'd bother with a rain cover for his bag.

Spray a sturdy bag regularly with the stuff that acts as a waterproof protector on coats etc?

DC is about to start his 4th year with a North Face rucksack that meets most of your requirements apart from the waterproof bit. Although it cost a fortune it looks as good now as it did when we bought it.

Go to a camping shop and buy waterproof spray. Do his shoes as well.

Got a great mountain warehouse one with laptop pocket, section for A4 books etc. Totally plain black, just how ds likes it. Good quality and certainly shower proof.

My sons spray their Adidas/Nike bags with waterproof spray and it works for them.

Sorry I've just seen your requirements and I wouldn't risk a Chromebook in their bags!

Yes, exactly that. Seems to work as a low-cost option!

Teenage boy has Eastpak, just going into year 9 with same one he started year 7 with. Waterproof and big enough to hold A4 exercise books. Seems expensive outlay but lasts for ages (I still use mine from when I was at uni in the USA 20 years ago).

When he gets back on rainy days I'm usually telling him to empty his bag as soon as he gets in because I'm paranoid about ruined books, damp smells etc
