Sixth form boys trousers?

DS is going to a new (state) school for sixth form, which is named on his statement, but has not contacted us directly (this is of course terrifying in many ways and is why I’m stressing about a more minor issue which is at least within my control).

From the pictures in brochure and the website it seems clear that they don’t wear uniform in the sixth form but there’s no specific guidance. He’s grown half a foot since lockdown, and has spent that entire time in shorts or old M&S grey school trousers so he’ll need new trousers. He doesn’t like wearing jeans, and would happily carry on wearing M&S school trousers, which I have vetoed as being social death. He has no other preferences on the matter.

All of the classroom photos on the website show students from the waist up so that’s no help.

Where do I start looking? What trousers do your sons wear to sixth form?

It really does depend on the 6th form - my son wore suits as did his peers (state school) my daughters school slacks and polo shirt are fine for the boys - is there no guidance on the admissions page or is there a Facebook page for the school you could ask on?

Nothing on the website, but from the photos it’s clearly not suits.

I’m thinking that if I get him one pair of slacks, one pair of cargo trousers and one pair of joggers then he’ll have all the bases covered and they’ll all be useful for outside school for various purposes.

Ours wear skinny jeans, adidas and Nike (and other branded) skinny joggers and the sports students live in shorts.

At my DCs' school they wear suits. I taught at a school with no sixth form dress code (beyond no sweary slogans) and the boys wore jeans, joggers, shorts. DS2 would wear joggers or branded athleisurewear like Nike or Adidas skinny strides as he hates jeans.

What are they weraing on their top halves OP? That could give a clue - DS2's joggers wouldn't go with anything but a T shirt.

Ds is starting sixth form in September is autistic, there is no uniform, I have bought him several pairs of jeans style trousers but not in traditional denim, black Tshirts & hoodies that he is comfortable wearing with boots & trainers.

@FunnyItWorkedLastTime we got M&S chinos - £19 a pair, and second pair half price at the moment.

Surely if you email the school (general email address from the website) someone will get back to you?

I would email them and ask for clarification.

Ds1 goes to a sixth form with a strict clothing policy, no ripped jeans, no shorts, no joggers, no sandals etc. They all just wear jeans, chinos, combat trousers with a t shirt. Oh and no hoodies either. But we knew this when he signed up Smile
