Independent schools in Brighton and Hove

Hi there,

We are considering a move to Brighton and Hove from London. Just wondering what people's thoughts on the independent schools are? They look pretty pricey to me compared to London. Do they have long waiting lists?

We are going to look at state schools also, but assume as our daughter is year 8 this year it won't be that easy to get a place

Primary or secondary?

Girls have more options than boys.

Brighton college is eye wateringly expensive and very competitive.

Roedean is girls only and actively recruits local girls so spaces might come up. It's outside Brighton and has a fairly big international intake.

Brighton Girls is very central and not as expensive as Roedean. They take girls in throughout the time. DD is there and some have joined each year. We like it and it's selective but not super pushy. Easy to get to on buses etc.

Otherwise a little further afield you have Shoreham College which is completely non-selective but doesn't seem to have the results the others do.

Then there is Hurst and Lancing. Both very competitive and very expensive.

There’s a grammar school in lewes which is selective but I don’t know how competitive. It’s about £5k a term ... anyone know much about that?

Dalry thanks so much for the info, Brighton girls is definitely top of our list at the moment and good to hear they take throughout the years as our eldest is going into year 8 this year.
