So results are out and we are happy in the Limit household. However there is a message on the exam page for our school internet saying:

"IMPORTANT GCSE Grades for History are awaiting final moderation from the exam board and will be updated at 10.30 Friday morning. Until then, these subject grades are provisional"

The history GCSE was CIE GCSE /9FC, History Opt by 0977BY, and was a linear exam with no formal coursework counting toward the grade, so I am not sure why moderation would be needed

Any insights? And can they go up as well as down?

Thanks

CIE were later than Ofqual to confirm that they would revert to CAGs. But they will honour higher grades awarded by the algorithm. On Friday morning, the grade confirmed will either be the CAG or the CIE algorithm-assigned grade.

It's just to cover in case the CAG which a pupil received today is, say, 6, but the algorithm had actually awarded them a 7. On Friday their official result will be 7, even if the pupil received a print out saying 6 from their school today.

Thank you, that's super helpful - so it will either stay the same or go up to a 9 if he is lucky. Much appreciated, I will stop worrying
