CAGS/Moderated GCSE - please clarify

Does the latest U-turn mean GCSE students can also pick between the highest CAG or moderated grade.

Or is this only for A-level students because they were already given a moderated grade.

Will GCSE students be given the same option?

I have been thinking the same thing.

Confusedbutheyho · 17/08/2020 16:38

The wording is very ambiguous!

Some students already got some of their grades last week from Cambridge. Including my son so it will be interesting to see what happens to those and if they can choose the CAG instead.

AldiAisleofCrap · 17/08/2020 16:47

Yes I think it does .

AldiAisleofCrap · 17/08/2020 16:47

From sky news “But students who were awarded a higher grade by the moderation process will still be allowed to keep it.”

AldiAisleofCrap · 17/08/2020 16:48

Sorry that may just be for A level.

I believe it's for GCSEs too. Students will be given whichever grade is higher

English pupils should definitely get to keep the higher grade. Especially if Welsh students are allowed to keep the higher of the 2 grades - which I think they are.
There has to be an equal situation in English since it is essentially the same qualification.
Welsh and English students compete for university places in both regions/nations and total GCSE score is part of the entry criteria (and is especially crucial for sought-after courses and universities), as well as individual GCSE requirements in Maths for university entry criteria.

I don't think schools are going to get the moderated grade.
