Thread 8 Carry on Corona Cohort: GAV give us the CAG?

OrangeCinnamon1 · 16/08/2020 09:10

Welcome all to the 8th Thread for this year's GCSE cohort the Corona Cohort!

Some of us have been here since I started first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. It is hoped this will continue. Going forward we intend to stay in secondary so any new threads should have 'GCSE Summer 2020 Thread # : Carry on Corona Cohort' in title just to make it easier to find.

From now on our DS/DD may go down various paths so we decided not to be exclusionary and stay right here in Secondary until HQ chuck us Grin
At this precise moment in time we are awaiting GCSE results that seem to have been produced by an algorithm that also takes very little account of Teacher Centre Assessed Grades. There is an appeal process but it was changed yesterday to include mock results and coursework, then taken down again for review.
Trying to protect our young people's mental health.during this shit show , which the government claims is their priority...when they talk about wanting students back in schools/college in September...

I’m wondering what conversations are happening with our children’s schools at the moment

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 16:12

@ealingwestmum

Hoofuckingray. AND an apology from head of Ofqual without balking.
And it actually appeared genuine!
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 17/08/2020 16:12

Thank God.

stoneysongs · 17/08/2020 16:13

Didn't a PP say that Wales (so presumably the same elsewhere) had guaranteed you would keep the moderated grade if it was higher, so they still need to provide that. And either schools pick the highest before issuing results or we get a results slip with both? Or maybe that was just for A levels.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 16:13

I think there was always a chance some students would benefit as well.

But I think this is the fairest way. Schools were told be prepared to evidence. I don't think there will be many schools where the grades are not the most accurate assessment of exam grade.

Nard75 · 17/08/2020 16:15

What a U turn and an apology to top it off. Hats off to Ofqual for apologising let’s see if BoJo and Gav do the same.

RedskyAtnight · 17/08/2020 16:15

Apology from Gav.

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 16:16

Lady on sky now very good at explaining.

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:16

I missed this apology : can't have been very long.

Wheresthebeach · 17/08/2020 16:16

Well thank God for that....

frustrationcentral · 17/08/2020 16:17

Can't see that happening!! Where are they both?!
Monkey2001 · 17/08/2020 16:17

I don't think OFQUAL will want to release the calculated grades, there will be lots of shredding and deletion of files. Why expose themselves if they don't have to?

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:17

So will GCSE students get to see their exam board grades? They might be higher ( and they should be able to get them if so...)

Plus I want to know what would have been done to my child!

stoneysongs · 17/08/2020 16:18

S Times journo also saying you can keep the moderated grade if it's higher. I'd be very interested to see the moderated grades I must say!

IHeartHarryStyles · 17/08/2020 16:18

Well then. Bring on Thursday.

DD thinks her CAG’s will hopefully range from 3-6. Mainly a mixture of 4’s and 5’s. enough to get her where she wants to go next and hopefully a hell of a lesson learned in the process.

RedskyAtnight · 17/08/2020 16:18

Gav's apology (reported in the Guardian)

"“I am sorry for the distress this has caused young people and their parents but hope this announcement will now provide the certainty and reassurance they deserve.”

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:19

DS glared at me because I was interrupting the cricket.

He is the most phlegmatic and level headed person I know!!

LillyM50 · 17/08/2020 16:21

from the ofqual statement:

We have therefore decided that students be awarded their centre assessment for this summer - that is, the grade their school or college estimated was the grade they would most likely have achieved in their exam - or the moderated grade, whichever is higher.

Does this refer to those who have already received a moderated grade or to all ?

Nard75 · 17/08/2020 16:21

I think schools will only give out CAG’s the Ofqual grades will be shredded and never seen.

StillDumDeDumming · 17/08/2020 16:26

An apology!!! Bloody hell. Think I’m more amazed at that

Rhubardandcustard · 17/08/2020 16:26

🥳

So happy. Well done everyone- the pressure we kept on with the tweeting and emailing Mps and filling in petitions would have helped enormously.

Piggywaspushed · 17/08/2020 16:27

So... we will get to see both lots...

Rhubardandcustard · 17/08/2020 16:28

From the Ofqual statement

We have therefore decided that students be awarded their centre assessment for this summer - that is, the grade their school or college estimated was the grade they would most likely have achieved in their exam - or the moderated grade, whichever is higher.

So does this really mean higher of computer algorithm grade or the Cags?

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2020 16:30

@Piggywaspushed

So... we will get to see both lots...
That'll be interesting!
