What if they didn't sit a mock GCSE?

My daughter had a meltdown and walked out of one of her PPE exams so has no grade to fall back on, what happens then? Is it just predicted grades? This is so stressful

I would imagine they’ll just use other data available like her classwork and homework plus any other class tests she done as well as any assignment work.

Don’t worry, tell her to relax, easier said than done I know, but I highly doubt because she didn’t do a mock that her teacher will have just given her a U. They can use other data.

Oh I don’t blame you! It’s a very stressful time for them and us parents!

I’m not sure what the rules are for predicted grades but they’re not limited to using mock test results for evidence when estimating predicted grades. They can use other stuff. It’s not compulsory to do mock exams anyway, it’s up to the individual school and teachers to decide - if a school didn’t want to do mocks then that would be up to them. So therefore exam boards will just use other work instead

Many home educated kids are stuffed, however. They may have had nothing they could submit in support of their predicted grades. Even if they did, they had to rely on the exam centre's willingness to do extra work and go out on a limb by submitting it for them - and even with the best will in the world, the exam centre doesn't necessarily know the candidate and the standard of their work well enough to certify it. Finally, the exam centre (nearly always a school) will have had to rank candidates within each grade band. What are the chances they will be willing to rank an unknown home ed kid above their own school's pupils, which would drag down their own kids' scores?

We have not been asked to submitted ANY evidence to go with centre assessed grades. Ofqual haven't decided what a 'valid mock' is yet. There's a lot of misinformation out there and I fully expect more announcements before Thursday
