Such a proud mum today.
My dd got 6/5 in English. Not such a high result but she struggles and is dyslexic.
We never thought she'd more than scrape through, she's so relieved.
Just hope the other results are ok.

GCSE results aren’t released until the 20th August. How do you know her results?

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 10:26

Its igcse.
She got her English, friend got English and drama results today.

Congrats to your DD OP! Yes its Cambridge International's results day today. Fingers crossed for the remainder on the 20th.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 11/08/2020 10:36

Congratulations to your DD!!

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 10:42

Thank you very much.
Also posted to maybe give hope to others in the same boat.
Predicted was 4/4 and mocks (although not administered as such) were 5/4. So this result was higher than expected.
There are a few on here who know my dd history, so had to post.
Good luck to everyone waiting.

Ah! Then many congratulations to her, such great news

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 10:53

Phineas

I can't tell you the relief. It seems like she'll have a resit for Maths but fingers crossed she may have scraped a 4. Science.is anyone's guess.
Luckily she only needs 3 for college and 2 A levels which should be ok.

My DD sat 2 Cambridge IGCSE s, but we only get her results with the rest of her results next week ☹️

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 11:22

Well done to your daughter @Devlesko! Such a relief for you all. We have a GCSE thread going for this years 'Corona Cohort' and intend to stay on this secondary board so do pop over as it is lovely and supportive with some very knowledgeable posters not me I'm clueless

That sounds rubbish for you @Seeline! Good luck to your Dd and hope to see you back over on the threads too as everyone moves on to various next stages.

crazycrofter · 11/08/2020 11:30

Well done to your dd! Hopefully that bodes well for the rest of them next week.

Seeline · 11/08/2020 11:33

TBH I didn't know they had a different results day until I saw it here! She's also done some Edexcel IGCSE s - are they published today too? Really frustrating 😆

RedskyAtnight · 11/08/2020 11:37

Well done to Devlesko's DD. 6/5 is a fantastic result, particularly if she's overcome struggles.

MrsR87 · 11/08/2020 11:40

Well done to you daughter. A great result that shows she’s worked hard to overcome her struggles - an impressive attribute to have for any college and indeed future employer and further education provider! 😃

bostik · 11/08/2020 11:55

Yes! Well done, well done! xx

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 12:14

seeline

It was the same for dd school but if they emailed the teacher they could get them today. I don't know how many did tbh, mine just didn't want to wait.
If they are marking a bit above that is good news, but of course she's just one kid so can't be representative.
I'll come over to the other board too.

Well done to your DD @Devlesko !!

Mominatrix · 11/08/2020 12:36

First sets of results came in today - rest come later. 3 9s and an 8 so far. I give DS no credit for these scores (nor does he) but know that he lucked out by being at a high performing school. Fingers crossed for the rest of the results.

Cookiecrisps · 11/08/2020 12:39

Fantastic news 🎉

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 12:42

Mominatrix

Does i matter that he's in a high performing school? My dd is but it doesn't make a difference to their own results does it?
I ask as dd said the same, that all her class got 6/5 if they didn't get higher marks.

OP posts:
Devlesko · 11/08/2020 12:43

Oh, sorry, well done your ds, is he naturally clever?

OP posts:
desertcoffeeyoga · 11/08/2020 12:44

Amazing !!! That's fab news. !!!

Mominatrix · 11/08/2020 12:48

Thank you for the congratulations, but honestly, we are more relieved than pleased.

DS is at an extremely selective school where the historical average GCSE grades are all A*s and 1 A. DS totally flubbed his mocks by not even bothering to study for them and they were disastrous, but he was really getting his act together and finally buckling down to work when coronavirus struck. This is why I say his results were more based on his school's previous results than any proven results he demonstrated.

OrangeCinnamon1 · 11/08/2020 12:54

Presumably the teachers had to put in a ranking system @mominatrix and part of that ranking would reflect how hard he has been working this past academic year, in class tests, book work, homework whatever So I do think some congrats in order! So congratulations!

Devlesko · 11/08/2020 12:56

Aw, that's interesting and very interesting.
My dd school is ss but for music. There are some very academic kids there and then the clever ones.
Mine has always known the academic side wouldn't be good, but her mates are all very clever.
I know the school always do exceptionally well even though only selective in music.
