Full score for ISEB pre-test

Hi Moms,

Heard a success Eton candidate story recently. The boy seemed to achieve 'full scores' for all FOUR sections in ISEB pre-test. I am so curious to know what is the 'full score'/highest score for the pre-test?

In addition, my son is using Atom Learning for mock tests. Any idea what is the highest score for those mock tests? As we are targeting Eton and Win Coll, what is a 'safe' score to pass the first round?

Thank you for your input!

Bumping for you OP, hopefully someone will come along to explain what the "full scores" mean.

As far as I have learnt from other moms, there is no concept of 100% in the pre-tests - it's a percentile scoring across all the children sitting the pre-tests. You also get harder and harder questions as you do more right, so someone getting "easy" 100% and "hard" 100% can have very different final scores.

We do Atom at home too - we are aiming to get to 128/130 which will be a decent (not great) score. You need to be a true genius to score above 135 in my opinion - this is not something that can be trained.

At our prep we used to say 125 would give you a good chance of a grammar school place. Is 140 the max.?

I didn't think you got results for this. We certainly didn't. We just knew that we were through to the next stage

We didn't get results too. My son did get a scholarship and we used Atom to prep last year, however, I remember him saying he found it easier than Atom and he said he found very identical questions in the Maths test when compared to Atom I can't really remember, but I don't think he got more than 130 in any of the subjects when using Atom, usually he was top percentile in Maths and Verbal.

My DS used Atom last year for about 6 weeks and he found it very useful for the ISEB pretest, can't remember his exact scores but by the time he wrote the exam his standardised age score was consistently 8-9. He got offers into both of the schools you are looking at.
As far as I'm aware, you don't get your ISEB scores.

Hello Mums. Please, which of these online training platforms prepare students best for independent school exams for schools such as Eton, Harrow, Tonbridge, Brighton, etc.

Thanks

Hi Mums,

Basically on the pre- test, the top score you could essentially get is 142 . If 1000 people did the pre test only 75 ppl would get a atom stanine of 9 . Over the years you needed around 121 to get into eton and 120 for win Coll. So aim high ladies !!!!!!

Akwong · 31/10/2021 07:54

My son currently has 134 in English and 130 in math so we are hopeful

Bond , planet bofa and atom. I personally prefer atom as it has mock tests , etc

As as explained to us by a highly selective UK /London top score on ISEB would be in the vicinity 130+| Stanine 9.

The process goes each school will generate a normal distribution curve of all applicants to the school, then group the scores in to bottom/mid bottom/ mid top/ upper quartile . This is the “universe” of applicants; from this year.

Depending on the cohort, the school will invite to interview those who have reached their X threshold across each subject.

Every school has slightly different “thresholds” as it all depends on who has applied, number of places and uptake of offers from past years.
