Hi everyone,
My dd starts at secondary school on the 3rd of September. She's very nervous about it as not many of her friends are going to her new school. Anyone else with kids starting year 7?
Thanks

Ours is starting yr 7. Most of his class are moving across with him. He is nervous too but we have told him that even if his friends aren't in his lessons, he can still meet them at break and lunch. His new school have been great. Sending him virtual tours and emails. They have also sent preparation subject details so he knows what he will be studying each term for the first 3 yrs so that has helped him to get excited especially about the science and technology lessons. He has ticked loads of after school clubs that he is interested in finding out more about.

They are being staggered in at different start and end times to the other yes so that will also help him not feel so overwhelmed by bigger children. Yr 7 go in first each day and finish first each day and their breaks are at different times to the others so he will only really see yr 7.

My DS starts Sept 9th. He's the only one from his school going to his new school and thankfully, it doesn't bother him.

Yes, my DD is starting Y7 in September. Hopefully.

I think she may have missed transition day or events as she was offered a higher choice school from their waiting list.

She doesn’t want to go to this new school, she’d got used to the original school.

@MoverOfPaperer-
My dd also got an offer on our first choice.
One of her friends in the year above went there and her best friend also got an offer for the school. However they are in different tutor groups, so she isn't totally reassured. Also she has to take a train and a bus to school so she is understandably concerned about missing it, ect. We are hoping to practice the journey on her own and together so she feels less anxious Smile

It would be lovely if DDs friend was offered a place too.
We’re fortunate in that DD can walk to school. I think it would be good for her independence if she was a little further away though.

Yes I have twin boys starting. Honestly I’ve never been so worried about anything in my life. I’m generally not a worrier, but I’m losing sleep over buying the right bloody SHOES for them so they don’t get picked on Sad

Hey op, we’re in a similar position!
Moving house this weekend, dd starts 2 September, she won’t know anyone so is feeling anxious. She also has to get the train/bus.
She’s autistic so I’m supporting her for the first few weeks/months to help her settle.

@Namechange8471, fingers crossed for you and your dd! Hopefully all goes well Smile

My DD is starting Yr7 next month too. Sadly her didn't offer any sort of transition, so I feel clueless about everything.

My DD is a young 11mand would probably be happy to stay at primary for another year, so that's my concern!! Good Luck to everyone..xx

DS is starting at an all boys grammar school in September. He just can’t wait to start as he obviously found out he was going after the 11+ in October so he’s been waiting nearly a year to go! He’s never actually looked around the school as he decided he wanted to do the 11+ at the last minute having insisted he didn’t want to go to an all boys school previously 🙈 we therefore missed last years open day and this year’s was cancelled as well as the induction days. So the only room he’s seen is the one he did his 11+ in 😂.

He has to travel by bus into the city centre but it’s an easy enough walk fro maybe bus stop to school.
