Upcoming girls’ independent SW London schools 11+ exams

Are there any parents on this board with DDs due to sit independent school exams in January? If so where do you stand in terms of shortlisting schools, revisions etc Are you planning to do any work over the summer?

We are still in the process of fine tuning the list of schools... We will probably end up applying to about 4/5 schools, of which 2 are in the same consortium which means 3/4 exams max.
As far as I am aware, our prep has not recommended any specific revisions for the summer, but I was still planning to make her write some maths, English and VR/NVR past papers, as 2 months without doing anything seems too much so close to the exams. I was thinking of making her do one paper a week in each subject, on top of reading and boosting her vocabulary, with two weeks in August without any paper/formal work.

Any tips on what we should be doing at this stage and over summer holidays, notably from parents with past experience, would be super useful!

Thank you

Hello gladtidings1 I think it is the same each year, but perhaps moreso this year as so many families were unable to visit schools to rule them out, so ended up applying in the hope they would be able to visit if they were offered a place.

Whatever way you look at it, this year will be tough for the admissions departments. I'm trying not to get anxious, but I will say that I find the communications from some admissions departments very understanding and reflective, whereas others not so much.
We have only applied to 4 schools as I couldn't really afford to put down an application fee at more than that. However, I'm now wishing I had added at least one more, given most schools went the ISEB route.

Anyone heard from Putney? (my manic refreshing not yielding any results yet!) Are we sure we will hear from them today? Thanks

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 14:19

Haven't heard but they did confirm on phone that the results will be sent out today in early afternoon.

Maybe just at the end of the school closing time .

dazedandconfused11plus · 11/01/2021 14:21

Thanks @Trialsat11 Better go and clean that last ceiling then Grin

Stircrazyschoolmum · 11/01/2021 14:28

I reckon they will push the send button and scarper!

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 14:35

@dazedandconfused11plus , the positive G&L result gives you some confidence at least.
@Stircrazyschoolmum I bet that is what is going to happen as the scholarship interviews were also sent end of day just before the term break
For us , this is the first ISEB result and we have signed up only for two schools - both our first choices ! Just can't get any work done today :-(

Stircrazyschoolmum · 11/01/2021 14:55

Just received the WHS email and nearly wet myself! 15th Jan is D Day..

Bimbamboosh7 · 11/01/2021 15:03

Yep - I also just notes that it’s a “group” interview online should we be lucky enough to get the call! 😱

Corblimbea · 11/01/2021 15:19

I’m sure everyone will get offers - at our prep it’s the same every year and everyone ends up in a school. WHS definitely said 650 applications and I think from the 11+ forum that KGS, like Emanuel, have over 1000 a year, so I reckon that was 1350 candidates. last week I posted some links to prep school offer information which should reassure! Surbiton appeared to offer to all, and there were loads of offers made but not accepted from KGS. I reckon they offer two-four times the number they need to be sure and loads in the waiting list.

Oreo2019 · 11/01/2021 15:54

Just received an email from Putney, it is good news for my DD, she is over the moon Smile

Flossietea · 11/01/2021 15:58

Congrats @Oreo2019! We haven’t heard one way or the other yet. Very nail biting!

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 16:01

We are also waiting .Called up Putney and they said it's been sent in b batches

Flossietea · 11/01/2021 16:08

Aaargh this is excruciating! I’m going to sprain something from refreshing my inbox too much.

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 16:19

We got an interview .. Happy tears for me and DD !

Flossietea · 11/01/2021 16:20

We got an interview too! So relieved!

Oreo2019 · 11/01/2021 16:24

Congrats to your DDs @Trialsat11 and @Flossietea!

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 16:32

Congrats to you too @Oreo2019 and @Flossietea

WarmAndco3y · 11/01/2021 16:45

Congratulations to all your DDs that must be a real relief for your all.

Coconut2010 · 11/01/2021 17:35

Has everyone received the email from PHS? I haven't so I'm obviously very worried now!

Flossietea · 11/01/2021 18:02

Everyone I know who was waiting to hear has heard @coconut2010. Have you tried calling them? Hope it’s good news!

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 18:14

@Coconut2010 PHS told me there will b a mail either ways . So no mail doesn’t mean anything and hold on as they said mails will go out all evening

Trialsat11 · 11/01/2021 18:15

Thanks @WarmAndco3y . It is indeed such a relief especially as it is one of our top choice and gives some relief that ISEB went k
@Stircrazyschoolmum hope all well at your end too

Normalisboring · 11/01/2021 18:16

What a week, congratulations to everyone who has heard from their schools.

Stircrazyschoolmum · 11/01/2021 18:26

We’ve not heard yet which doesn’t bode well. But perhaps they are grouping kids by school/surname/passmark..

Are they still group interviews? That would explain the batches. Not expecting to hear until tomorrow now..

dazedandconfused11plus · 11/01/2021 18:51

DD is through, and breathe...! @Stircrazyschoolmum fingers crossed for you! Well done everyone else.
